New Boxster 4 cylinder turbo engines

Hi,

this is the sound of the flat 4 turbo engines in Boxster and Cayman prototypes.

I think the value of the 986 flat 6 cars will raise soon.

Until we double the factory output... I am ordering a car as soon as they are released, and pulling the engine apart immediately.

Sounds like Porsche have done a better job of exhaust tuning than Subaru. They sounded pretty good to me and don't seem to be lacking in power. Wonder if one will fit in an older 986?

Kinda sounds like crap.
If I wanted a WRX with a soup can muffler I would go buy one
Not impressed at all
Can't wait for Raby to pull it apart

Not impressed but I'll forego judgement until I hear the real thing in person.

I've never cared about sound... Not at all. Maybe because I can hard;ly hear anyway from too many hours of turbine engine exposure.

If it hauls ass, and lasts, thats all that matters.

Jake, i'm sorry - i don't agree,

To me the flat 6 is the most important thing and the sound was besides the handling why i bought my 986S brand new in 2003. Also it was why i did'nt buy a 987 later on, because the 987 was too much refined for me. I liked the exterior design of the 987 very much, but the driving feeling waa too tame for me. At the end i like the 981. But the times when cars where number one to me are now gone and i'm pretty happy with my 986.

Hope Porsche will improve the final flat 4 sound. But if that is the final stage i wouldn't buy that car. Even if handling and performance will be better compared to competitors.

To be honest if i would like to invest 70K plus i would go with an used aircooled flat 6.

Regards
Markus

I'm sure it's quick. But I'd prefer a slow heavy flat 6 NA to a light quick flat 4.

I hope at least the gts or something still comes NA.

Sound is important on a sports car for most enthusiast.

If one wants fast and does not care about engine sound Tesla offers a car with "Ludicrous Speed". 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds with zero driver skill required.

As much as I like the sound of a flat six nothing beats easy access to additional horsepower then a turbo' engine.

I'm with Jake on this one. The sound is all about the "hey everyone, look at me" - the mantra of most muscle cars. I love my Porsche because it is more refined, handles amazingly and has lots of power.

For me it's not about making noise for others to hear. A load exhaust is just obnoxious and juvenile. It's about what I hear while driving the car.
