Do you park in gear?

I ran this poll a while back and was surprised by how few use only the e-brake.
Maybe this result will be a little different with newer forum members included.

Yes and the parking brake.

Hawaiian Driver 07-01-2015 01:23 PM

No my parking brake is in perfect adjustment, so I never place the car in gear unless I'm on a hill.

BIGJake111 07-01-2015 01:28 PM

Gear and parking brake, regardless of a hill.

Smallblock454 07-01-2015 01:37 PM

Because my Box isn't a daily driver i always only park in gear and don't use parking brakes. Brakes tend to block if the car is stored for a longer time.

particlewave 07-01-2015 01:46 PM

No. Never.

If on a hill, e-brake and wheels cranked toward the curb.

Benitom 07-01-2015 01:48 PM

E-Brake only

I may start parking in gear now

Retroman1969 07-01-2015 02:01 PM

Anything can happen, so for me: e-brake, in gear, and wheels turned if next to a curb.

jsceash 07-01-2015 02:10 PM

I use both 1st gear and the e-brake. Even in my garage force of habit.

BFeller 07-01-2015 02:18 PM

E Brake, In Gear, Wheels in a safe direction. I had one in-explicitly roll on me. Call it suspenders and belt if you must.

JayG 07-01-2015 02:38 PM

In gear all the time
sometimes E-brake as well, such as on a hill or not flat
Wheels always turned to the curb

embryoguy@mac.com 07-01-2015 03:08 PM

ebrake only in driveway, but anywhere outside my house, ebrake with gear.

san rensho 07-01-2015 03:13 PM

Its flat here in Miami, so in gear only. I had a VW that I left outside, unused during an entire Wisconsin winter, with the parking brake on. If I remember correctly, it took hammers and torches to get it free.

The only good argument I have heard for using the parking brake only, is that if you leave it in first for example and the car gets hit from the front, the motor can get ruined (timing will be thrown off) because the motor will be turning backwards, which is a no-no.

E brake and in gear. Steep hill, wheels to curb and in Reverse.

clickman 07-01-2015 03:44 PM

E-brake and in 1st. Steep uphill, add: wheels to curb. Steep downhill add again: shifter in reverse.

Fintro11 07-01-2015 04:00 PM

in the garage i park in reverse always now ( parked it in N with no ebrake one and it pumped into the pull up handle on the garage door :(

when I'm out somewhere reverse / e brake

RedTele58 07-01-2015 05:04 PM

E-brake and either 1st or 2nd gear. My driveway has enough of a slope I don't want to find my car/s across the street.

And I'm getting old... If I forget one, hopefully I'll remember the other! :D

thstone 07-01-2015 05:40 PM

E-brake and 1st gear. Always.

Don't be this guy...

Timco 07-01-2015 07:01 PM

E brake and 2nd. Always.

TypeA 07-01-2015 07:11 PM

1st gear only when parking in public. I only use the e brake if I get out while its running and I think the car might roll. Garage its always out of gear with e brake off. I back into the garage and then grab it by the spoke of the rim to roll it back into the perfect position. I also manually roll it back and forth when Im applying Back to Black on the tires.
