What is this wiring harness?

So I had my center console off in order to fix my e-brake switch, and I found this bad boy hanging loose behind it.

I've got the radio & amp, but this didn't look like it came from the back of the radio unit.

Any thoughts?

I believe it is intended for the factory cell phone connection and is part of the factory harness. Will give you access to switched or unswitched 12v power.

Is there a module to connect and thus get the cell phone available in the car? Via stock equipment I mean.

I would think the dealer could answer that question. I was looking for switched power for my new Skybreaker wind deflector when I came across that thread.

Limited Collection - English :D

It was a rare option that cost about $5K, and required you also buy the PCM system (another $3K) as well:

Very few were ever sold.

Thank you for your answer. I think I'll pass as well :p

JFP, thanks for the posting a pic! I've always heard about this option but never actually seen one.

No, no, no...
I don't know what all these nutbars are talking about, but that plug is for the passenger side rear fog light. Since it's unplugged, I guarantee you that your passenger side rear fog light is not working.

Don't believe me? Go check ;)

Very few people ever have, it was so ridiculously expensive and already out of date technology at the launch that the only ones I ever saw where in cars driven by Porsche Cars North America zone reps.

You wouldn't want a 986-era cellphone in any event!

PaulDash 06-30-2015 01:33 AM

The option "Preparation for telephone installation" (code 618) should give you that plug, the side bulge on the lower center console, and a little antenna in the middle of the windshield frame. I have all of that and there was no phone - which would have to be ordered as a separate option. Oh, and my radio was a "Porsche CR-22" (code 321).

Hey, you're right! I'm heading out right now to tear apart my dash and find the opposite connection so I can get that damn fog light on. It always bothered me.

Thanks Particlewave. You're the best!
