Once or twice a week for therapy, it takes me away from everything. It's great for clearing the mind.

How long all the way around the island? Have you seen it all?

rick3000 06-28-2015 07:47 PM

I used to do it a lot more, but lately maybe once or twice a month for a half an hour. I find driving for the sake of driving relaxing, especially if I can get a mountain road to myself at dusk.

I really want to take Hwy 1 from The City to LA in my Box. Been from Santa Cruz up in my truck but not the same.

I did a 5 hour drive up PCH (Pacific Coast Highway, Hwy 1) a while back from Laguna to Redondo Beach, it was a lot of fun with the top down, but it doesn't actually run next to the ocean in parts of LA, plus traffic, plus parts of Long Beach are sketchy. I prefer the drive north of LA, near Malibu.

Before I started my 400 mile a week commute I drove to drive pretty often. Now I'll just take a different way home, using back roads and not the highway to get my fix.

I take 30-60 min short drives weekly. Just me and the flat six.

To drive around the island would probably take 6-7 hours. I've seen it all many times. When jungle trekking I use my AWD Subaru Outback. Beautiful thing is the majority of the roads are twisty.

Not nearly enough, that's for sure!

Sometimes when I am working on the car and I finish it at night I will jump in and take a 30 minute drive. When it is cooler I like to take a drive on a new twisty road recently opened up here that is hilly and makes a nice loop with my other twisty road, with a short stretch of interstate between them (on ramp and cloverleaf type situation that I can use to reverse direction).

Now that I am retired i am driving, just to drive, everyday. At least until November when i will put her to bed for the winter.

Second that

Had a go at the 986 last weekend, 100miles ride or something like that, clean car and wheels, roof down and all. Ahhhh x1000

Driving the roadster once a month minimum. I use it to go to the local circuit for my monthly practice (track day, stress management therapies). And not shy to say that I occasionally take off for no reason e.g nice evening, not cold or hot, roof down, making trouble and noise in the city's tunnels lolllll All alone.. that's the funny part

But that happens much less often than before :/ Wish the weather pattern here would be working a tad better. Sux so far this year

CrisZenithBlue 06-29-2015 10:26 AM

living in Florida the weather is a non issue but the flatness is what kills the fun in the flat six! at least 2-3 times a week i take it out for a spin at night when traffic dies down and go to my usual artificial turns around the Miami airport where i know cops wont hear a little tire screeching if it happens then make some noise in the empty garage at work. any overpass or ramp is welcome so i find myself going the extra mile quite a bit for a few seconds of pleasure.

the complete lack of twisties would be a strong reason to move from Florida. i just dont get to the track often enough.

oh.. and every Sunday morning before the South Beach drunkies wake up and start weaving on the road i hit the one tunnel that leads to the port for my weekly permagrin readjustment. :D police has it closed during the night..

i am suffering from extreme withdrawal after living in Madrid for 5 years surrounded by mountains and hidden paradises with nothing but fixed speed traps all clearly marked on the GPS. police is doing relevant things with their time..

damn it life! giving me a 4 door sedan in paradise and a roadster in the swamp! would have killed to have the Boxster back in Europe!!

Toppy986 06-30-2015 01:33 PM

I try to take it daily with top down, so not if it is raining, which it has been here for the last 4 days. Hopefully on Canada day the sky's will clear, happy early birthday day fellow Canadians

What you said...
With several family obligations and then crappy rainy weather, the poor Boxster hasn't been out of the garage for 10 days now.
Losing my mind looking at it, maybe I should just put the top up and drive it in the rain. It's a car and it won't melt, right?

I have times that I just hop in and head out - Some times into the mountains sometimes down a twisty back country road.
I use the care to commute every day - so there are times I am home a bit later then I expected.
I ride bike to so once a week or so I throw on the gear and go for a rip.
Just put new rubber on the FJR and a little maintenance - It may be getting a bit more use now.

Only when I can figure out how to safely cross a puddle, those things scare me.

jdlmodelt 08-05-2015 06:51 PM

nearly everytime i take her out. Of course, i suspect driving to work back and forth doesn't count but yet it does when I could have taken a different vehicle instead. in which case, EVERY time I take her out is JUST to DRIVE her.

apswater 08-05-2015 07:10 PM

I drive any day the weather is nice and not too hot. I have never put the top up. My office is only 4 miles from home so I don't do many miles.
