Question on replacing the steering rack

Hi,

I have a distinct clunk from the steering rack on my 98 Boxster. Reproduced simply by pushing the steering wheel back and forth, the clunk gets worse over the bumps. I had posted another thread here about the clunk and am replacing the rear control arms, sway bar links and bushings. Took the vehicle to a Porsche specialist today, the mechanic did the analysis in front of me and like multiple previous opinions has concluded that one of the bearings in the steering rack is causing the clunk. After validating part I was advised that a new/re-built rack will be needed. The shop is open to me getting the part.

My questions are:

Do I also need the PS fluid changed at the same time?
Looking to order the rebuilt rack from Pelican. Do I also need the steering rack boot kit?

Please do advise on any other thoughts or considerations I need to be aware of for this swap. I will be glad to get this issue sorted so the motor rides smooth vs. the constant clunks.

If you are going to replace the rack, why wouldn't you want to replace the Pentosin, rubber boots and inner/outer steering rod arms too. Then a) you are eliminating all the wear components on the steering and b) you are good to go for another 100,000 miles.

Hi Steve - Appreciate your response. I have added Pentosin PS fluid to the list. Validated with Pelican and the new rack comes with a new boot kit. I had the outer and inner tie rods changed when I did the complete front suspension overhaul.
