New momo wheel

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1434300448.jpg
Does anyone know the diameter of the factory 3 spoke boxster steering wheel? I got a new momo wheel that measures 350mm. I don't mind if it's a little bit smaller but if it's a lot smaller I don't know if I want to use it. Also will I have any issues with turning off the airbag light when the day comes I put stock whee back in? I like the look of the prototipo wheel and it wasn't too expensive so I thought I would try it out.

I would love to do that but it's again the law here :(

Charge your phone!!

No air bag, no pass safety inspection.

oc-boxster 06-14-2015 09:21 AM

I live in California we don't have any type of inspection, just smog. If the airbag light causes any problems with a smog check I guess I could just change it back before the test, I just want to make sure I can get the light turned off

My stock 3 spoke measures 375mm, so the prototipi will be 1" smaller.

Thanks. I think that is a good size

You can't, unless you have a PWIS or Durametric. You can trick the ECU with a resistor arrangement, google it.

I don't mind if f the light is on while I have no airbag, just want to make sure I can get it to go off again when I put the airbag and stock wheel back on if I ever sell the car.

If you go this route, you can remove your airbag lamp from the instrument panel cluster. Takes about 20-30 minutes to remove and reinstall the cluster.

Just put that lamp back in before you sell!

4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistor between the two pins on the airbag connector and the computer won't know it's gone. for a finishing touch try one of these:

Porsche Embossed Leather Cup for Momo Horn Button | eBay

you do realise that you will also need a hub adaptor, yes?

oc-boxster 06-15-2015 07:25 PM

Yes, I did order the correct adapter for the wheel

I've decided against installing the wheel. My car is equipped with PSM, which my mechanic tells me will no longer work once the airbag is removed.

Plus, it's just silly to remove the airbag...turns out those things can actually save your life...

particlewave 06-18-2015 03:17 PM

Agreed. I see no valid reason for that wheel which detracts from the car in every possible way, but that's just my opinion :)
I'm sure you had your reasons.

oc-boxster 06-18-2015 04:21 PM

Yeah. As a few days went by after I ordered it I started having second thoughts. My stock wheel is in pretty bad shape, any suggestions on a place that can recover it?

Guess I'm late to the party..

Is this a fact? Would the psm be disabled if I remove oem steering wheel/airbag?

Just planning to try the Momo. 07

Airbag light does not affect smog check in California.

No it will not.

You will get an airbag light unless you use a bypass resistor. Otherwise everything else stays the same.
