Slow drivers move over- Hooray Indiana
It's about time that our lawmakers use their head for something more than a hat rack.
Indiana passed a law making it a fine to not yield to a faster driver in the left lane regardless of how fast you are going. Maybe there should be a national law that all cars must yield to a Porsche! |
How does one determine who is a 'faster driver'?

It is such a simple driving Rule "Stay to the right unless Passing"
I believe some European countries have these Rules with penalties Making laws that can't be enforced is a waste of laws This needs to be behavior that must be enforced in driver education Sometime I must look like a lane changing fool on the hwy. I constantly try and stay out of the Far left passing lane unless I'm Passing |

I am a huge advocate of testing frequently. Licensing should be taken seriously, not as a tool for employers to use for shuttling their employees to work and to the shopping Meccas. |
Do they also a law saying you can't pass on the right?
On 99 or I5 when it gets congested, the azzholes will get in the right lane and pass all the other cars, and get right behind the trucks, and then expect you to let them cut in ahead of you. https://youtu.be/pA7BASFqXIw |
Hello?? Missouri?? Are you listening?? You're next!!!! Get a clue!!!!
Every damn car sat in the fast lane doing the speed limit. Then I come up, blink, they get over, and move back over!! |
Well, it might now be the law here in the grand state of Indiana but I don't think it will ever gain any traction unless the police are aggressive in enforcing it and I very much doubt whether that will happen.
The multitude of lane-cloggers are too thoughtless, putting their SUV's on cruise control and coasting along alongside another lane-clogger going exactly the same speed on cruise control, never thinking to notice the car(s) behind. All they need to do is speed up or slow down a little and let the faster drivers (those of us with 986's especially) behind through. They don't respond to flashing lights because they never notice them. Driver education is a laugh, driver courtesy is rare and thinking drivers are few. End of rant. It's the law most places and just common sense.
...and it is enforced here, especially in KC. There was a local media campaign two or three years ago stating that law-enforcement would be enforcing this law, and it was seen on the roads that they were enforcing the law. Since then, it's more rare to see someone clogging up the fast lane. When I do, it's almost always someone from out of state...Utah is the worst. Must be a polygamist mormon thing. |

There is a catch-all of 'unsafe driving' which is perfectly adequate to cover azzholes going slow in the fast lane. All that happens is more stupid cases clogging the courts. |

If you are in the left lane and not passing you get a ticket, if you are holding up traffic you get a ticket. It's not rocket science |

Also, traffic violations usually don't mean you have to go to court, so do not clog up the court system. It's a ticket you pay by mail. |
Most interstate highway in Ca (I-5) the right lane is in such poor shape that most drivers opt to stay on the left because the road surface is a lot smoother. Me included but I do move over when I see any car approaching. Ca highway systems have signs fr slower traffic to move to the right lane but this is never enforced.

I agree with other posters from Texas. We have that law and it's worthless, especially in big cities like Houston with village idiots reading texts going 50 mph on the freeway in the far right lanes.
Even if they banned the use of cell phones for drivers it wouldn't be enforced often enough to change behavior in Texas. I do appreciate the lawmakers in Texas putting this law into place though. It does give LEOs the right to pull over someone driving too slowly in a fast lane if they're not too busy busting people for driving 5-10 over the limit... |
Way too low speed limits is the general problem (and drivers licenses from gumball machines of course ;) )
In theory: If I would do 65 on a HWY with a 60 speed limit, I would break the law twice for being in the left lane and not letting an even faster law breaker pass? cool beans... But generally a good thing to exclusively make left lanes passing lanes ONLY. Slowest lane far right, every other lane LEFT HAND PASSING only, but isn't that the law already? As I said the general problem are the too low speed limits...and trucks passing cars...wow...you never see that in Germany. |
Now which lane was the 'passing lane' again?

The problem is idiot, discourteous drivers that just get in the left lane and stay there regardless of what other traffic is doing. Especially the ones that pace the car next to them and have an open road in front. Either speed up and pass or slow a little and move over. I taught my kids to always move over if someone is coming up behind them regardless of how fast they may be driving and not to just drive in the left lane for no reason. I drive fast often and I will move over if some jackass in their honda is coming up on me. They want to drive faster than me, no problem |

I'm a advocate of putting in place similar traffic laws and strictly enforcing them as in Germany. It would go a long way towards improving things. Every time I'm there I find it much more enjoyable with most following the traffic laws. You can't have unlimited speed limits without everyone following the traffic laws. |
