I Bought A 2000 Last Week

I bought the 2000 I asked for pricing help on. (Artic Silver, black top and interior, sport package, 17" wheels with colored crests, on-board computer, silver shift knob and brake handle, CDR-220 with door and dash speakers, 30,000 miles) It had all the service records, manuals, radio code and both keys. There were a few minor problems in the PPI, but nothing major.

I picked it up last Thursday. It was a little dirty when I bought it, so I spent my limited free time during the last week cleaning and waxing it. I also installed PNP rear speakers and an adapter for an iPod.

The car looks almost like new now. It does have 3 small dents on the driver's side that could easily be fixed by a paintless dent repair specialist. They are not that visible, so I may wait until I sell my Miata to have them repaired. The rear window isn't perfect either - maybe an "8" on a scale 0f 1-10. I'm sure it will be good for another 3-4 years. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to cars, so I tend to note every small flaw.

I appreciate all of the advice I received during my purchase planning and execution. You saved me money and helped me avoid some errors. I would have preferred a newer car (2003 was my first choice) but I'm pleased with this car. In any event, Consumer Reports indicates that 2000 Boxsters are the most reliable. Since I plan to keep the car for many years, that is comforting.

Now all I have to do is figure out if I'm brave enough to change the spark plugs myself. Oh - and I need to start enjoying the car.

Congrats!!!!! Nice Choice.. I haven't seen that report but very happy to hear that too... Plugs are easy I'll have to check but thought you could go to 60,000 before change so you have alittle time ;) Get out and enjoy

Welcome to the family... I too got a 2000 in part of Consumer Report's slight inclination towards that year.

Amber is like wrinkles... First thing I did... remove all the amber color lights. It makes it look years younger.

I'm wondereding why the 2000 is above average in reliability and the Boxster in general is average or below. I can understand the first few years being below average while they were working out all the kinks. Did the factory get complacent after 2000 and let things slide? Or, did the Boxster stay steady and cars in general became more reliable.

I understand the disinclination towards amber, but I need to get over the financial hit of buying, registering and insuring the car.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I'll post pictures soon.

there's no hope.
You will be spending MORE money on your Boxster.

In order to avoid this disease, don't ever return to this website.

As spring is here I re-stocked my detaliling supplies:
$100 ouch!
Renovo for plastic window $8
Clay Magic $10
Finish Kare super slick 425* and FX100 refills $30
Poor Boys ssr 2.5 swirl remover $15
Acrylic Jett sealant $15
1Z Vinyl and Rubber (for dash) $12
1Z gumi flege (rubber seals) $8

*must have

I was eating at my friend's restaurant the other night and I had a crowd of about 10 people checking out my car as they waited for their valet cars. They couldn't believe the car was nearly 6 years old. My friend is demmanding that I sell him the car next year or he'll end our friendship. I guess I'm keeping it!

Well, like I said, I've already spent:

$210 - PNP rear speakers
$23 - Becker iPod input
$8 - light bulbs
6 hours - wash, vacumn, wax, admire
6 hours - speaker and iPod install

But it's only money and time - for a Porsche it's worth it.
