Drivers window not lowering sufficiently when opening door

Recently purchased a 1997 Boxster and have a problem with the drivers window. Most of the time it seems to work ok, but have a problem when opening and closing the door.

The problem I have is that with door closed, using either inside or outside handle, window only lowers about 3mm and does not clear the rubber seal.

1) Lowering roof, both windows open about an inch or so, working fine.
2) Normal operation of window buttons is fine, except when fully down, drivers window sits about 5mm higher than the passenger window.
3) with door open, I lower window and raise, it raises to the door open position and closes when door closes.
4) door open and activate lock to make car think that door is closed, window goes up all the way. With window up, I put a small amount of pressure with my hand on the top of the window and open either handle it goes down about 1/2 inch, sufficient to clear the door rubber.

I have read a lot of forums that suggest regulators, micro-switches or window reset.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation
