Help! The Key is Struck in the Ignition

I have an 01 and never had problems before but today coming home from work I notice that after stopping for gas that I couldn't get the key out. I can turn off the engine just can't turn it all the way to get it out. I then went home and the key is stuck in the ignition. Strange! The key is not bent or I didn't have problems getting it out before.
Any suggestion?

Did you try wiggling the steering wheel while in park?

I tried wiggling the steering in park and I made sure that the steering wasn't turned all the way left or right.

I don't know if it's a electrical or mechanical problem. If it's electrical I'm thinking about disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it to see if it clears the problem but if it mechanical I do not know what to do.

Hi,

I assume you have a TipS as you mention "...In Park". If so, try putting the Car in Neutral and see if that helps, also, make sure to depress the Brake Pedal and see that you're between steering locks on the steering wheel. Hope this helps...

If all else fails, I say a bad ignition switch. I had one that would not give up its key.

Best of luck!

Brucelee, if it's a bad ignition switch what are we talking price wise? I'm assuming it's a repair done at the dealer.
