Trouble shooting Ignition/ Window problem

I have a 1998 Boxster and I all the sudden have had a bunch of issue with my windows rolling down randomly and the car not starting. Thinking it was the ignition switch I pulled it out and replaced with a new one. Car is still not starting.... I pulled out the rubber cup around the ignition and pulled out the part the key goes into before it hits the whole ignition column. I pulled it out and my windows went down around 2 inches and now I do not have control to access anything on my dashboard (lock button, windows) CD and heat/AC buttons still work.

So now I'm stuck with a car that wont start and windows that wont go up. Any idea what could be causing everything to go crazy??? I'm thinking it may have something to do with the electrical in the ignition area. Any ideas

Here is a picture of the ignition switch I replaced

Here is the part I pulled out and my windows rolled down...

I had problems yesterday of the same, found out my immobilizer was under an inch of water under the seat
Got the water out, dried it and all working ok now.

Thanks for your post, in fact I just checked and I have the same issue....

Must have a leak in the soft top as I just found a small pond under my drivers seat. Appreciate your post, saved me from needing to take it into the shop. So my hats off to you sir!
