I've been driving for over 30 years, driven average of 3,000 miles a month, and this is my first wreck ever! What really sucks is it was my fault because I looked away for like a second to adjust my climate control. :(

On the plus side, it didn't hit anything vital, the other driver was okay, was very polite, and we parted ways without police or insurance involvement. He drive a pickup and I hit his hitch so he got no damage.

My regular Porsche mechanic is going to fix it himself instead of send it to his body shop because it's relatively minor despite how it looks. Looks like hood, bumper, and straighten front brace. Oddly, no airbags went off.

Whew, could have been much worse

Sorry you had the fender bender, but you were lucky it wasn't worse. Headlights, airbag, seat belt, windshield crack, etc. could have easily been included. Glad everyone was okay. You have a great resource for replacement parts in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Foreign, Heck they may even have a silver one in stock that could help avoid paint work.

Had one almost exactly like you describe. Only I was distracted by another Boxster and the pickups brake light weren't obvious against its red paint as I looked into the sun. . I thought minor $3-5k damage since the pickup was not damaged at all. No airbags either.

My front fender was driven back against the door and you could see where the door had displaced into the door frame. Unfortunately, the high end body shop stopped counting when the estimate got over the value of the car and it was totaled. My insurance paid well and I quickly bought another.

Yours looks minor by comparison. Good luck.

Ouch!

Sorry to see...

Getting damaged up high by a small truck vs down low at the bumper may be a small blessing. Down low could have damaged the rads, A/C components and dozens of other things including supension.

Good luck with the repairs.

Sorry to see this! Similar thing happened to me 20 years ago in my Triumph TR-6 when I took my eyes off the road for a moment to change the radio station. Good to hear that everyone is ok and that the damage can be repaired.

Retroman1969 05-15-2015 11:43 AM

Thank you guys! You're right, it's pretty minor and I lucked out for my first wreck. I bet I can get my hands on a silver hood and bumper. Everything works perfectly, even the hood lath and the hinges didn't even get tweaked. Doors still line up perfectly. Wasn't even knocked out of alignment.
Aside from the slightly bent brace at the front of the trunk, I think it's just going to be a bolt-on affair.
Lesson learned. We get too comfortable with driving and become distracted too easily. At least I do!

On its way.....

Bummer. It's so easy to allow ourselves to be distracted. We almost always get away with it but it only takes once. Glad no one was hurt and that the damage appears fixable for hopefully not alot of money.

Here in the Phoenix are we have a Porsche dismantler that I know has a bunch of Boxster part cars. BTW - no affliation beyond buying a few parts from them. Good luck.

Thank you!
I just left the shop and he happens to have a used silver hood and bumper on hand. :)
Will have it back in a few days. This should be pretty cheap for an accident repair. Got very lucky.
My two at the shop, bookending a 750hp 911...

If it's any consolation, at least it was the Beater Boxster that took the hit. :(

Finnegan 05-15-2015 02:45 PM

Ouch for the car! But I'm glad nobody was hurt.

Retroman1969 05-15-2015 02:45 PM

Absolutely.
It's a good example of why I bought it. Fortunately it didn't kill it. ;)
Although I just realized I polished the scratches out of that hood last week for nothing!

Looks like nothing duck tape can't fix!

Glad to see that this will be an easy fix, looks bad but the hood did its job of dissipating things.

Hope that it's good as new in no time!

Santafe 05-15-2015 03:24 PM

Looks familiar , so sorry this happened to you but hopefully that will be the last for at least another 30 years, using second hand parts it shouldn't cost to much to repair, please let us know how you get on as repairs progress.

Good Luck, you'll be back on the road in no time.

Retroman1969 05-15-2015 05:09 PM

I appreciate it guys!
They're going to straighten the brace this weekend and start swapping parts Monday. She might be back on the road before the end of the week.
Clickman, I was thinking the exact same thing!

antny 05-15-2015 05:12 PM

That sucks bud. Glad it is going to be an easy fix.

First accident in 30 years.... you're doing well. This is minor enough too. Get the tag off of the inside of the truck and transfer it to the new one.

Nine8Six 05-15-2015 06:23 PM

Crap, this is never good to see. Feel ya from this side of the world mate :/

One thing for sure we're glad you okay. Twisted metal is in most case an easy fix
