Problem roof mechanisim

Hi guys, i have a slight problem with my roof mechanism on my 986. The top push rod has come off. its not the push rod thats broken but the part that the plastic ball joint attaches to has broken off. Does anyone know what this part would be called that holds the ball that the plastic ball joint attaches to? any pics or diagrams would be very much appreciated....Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the picture.......no thats not what I'm talking about. Thats the push Rod, at the threaded end goes a ball joint as you probably know then that ball joing fits on to a (this is what i don't know the name of) ball, its the part that hols the metal ball that connects with the plastic ball joint that i need.......hope this makes sense:)

Last I heard, the plastic part is not available separately and you have to buy the whole assembly. I bought several before realizing, there was another issue that was causing the plastic parts to break. So I quit buying them and went manual.

Never mind, that's not what you were asking. I think I know the answer though. Give me a couple minutes.

Thanks for the diagram.......unfortunatley I've found out that the part that is broken is actually part of the roof main frame work which Porsche quoted £1775 just for the part, it may be a possibility to bond the broken metal parts together. will ask my mechanic to try that.

Sorry to hear that this is getting complicated for you. I just worked through my own malfunction. I found the plastic ball joints (set of 2) on eBay for about $25. I opened the top with stuff sitting on the back shelf. When the top closed up, both pushrods broke off when ball joints did what they were supposed to do - fail first. Fortunately no other parts of the mechanism were damaged.
