It sounds like you had an almost ideal repair experience - the second fix you tried worked. I hope that is a good omen for the rest of your ownership experience.

The small bulb inside the unit is the parking light. Oddly enough, it is a different size on the litronic lights than on the halogen units. You will need an H6W bulb. I couldn't find one at the auto parts stores I frequent and had to order it from Rock Auto.

The Xenon bulbs are supposed to last "the lifetime of the vehicle" according to the Porsche literature. I'm not sure how long that is, but with our cars getting into their early-to-mid teen years I guess we will start finding out. The Xenon bulbs are pricey.
