Outside Air Temp

Have I missed something.... I recently saw a photo of an instrument panel from a 98' Boxster (non-S) that displayed an outside air temp reading below the digital mph readout. I own the same car and (to my knowledge) my display has never shown the outside air temp. Am I missing something? Was that an option my car may not have? Was the photo I saw mis-labled and from another year?... or will my display offer the same IF I can figure out a way to operate it?...lol

Any ideas?.....thanks.

No, you saw correctly. The car has the on board computer activated, which shows the outside air temp by default. To do this, you need to re code the DME.

Ah OK....my car doesn't have the on-board computer option. Thanks for the reply!

I believe all boxsters came with the onboard computer- it's just they didn't activate it and give you a stick to toggle through the features. But if you activate it you can get the outside temp but can't use the other features. With a little more work on the steering wheel you can get use all the functions besides the temp.

where can you activate this besides the dealer?

Anybody with a durometric

Yes

Find 4 stalk and install it....one of my harness will make it look and function like a factory option....even a dealer will not be able to tell it did not come on the car

curiosity, would a car with a 4 stock have the same harness in it already ?

It should

If it came with a 4 stalk and OBC activated....it should be right there.....but so should the 4 stalk be also

I am surprised the harness was not already in there

Unless a PO replaced the 3-stalk with a 4-stalk, since sometimes they are cheaper, but never bothered to put the harness in. Food for thought.
