Thickest Wheel Spacers on 987 Boxster S?
 

I'm interested in installing wheel spacers and would like to push the wheels out as far as possible without rubbing...what's the widest that's been done out there? This is purely for aesthetic reasons but Id rather not get into fender rolling and such. Car is a stock 2008 Boxster S with 18" rims and Michelin PS2 tires.

Thanks Kram36, I've seen this before and just did the measurements with my new tires in place. I also visited the local Porsche dealer to check some cars that they had in stock or parked there for service. Looks like I'll be going 10mm front and 20mm rear. I want to keep the wheel just a slight bit in from the wheel well, so almost flush. I think the 10/20 combo should do that!

the question too vague about how thick of spacers. there are too many variables to give a definitive answer. you need to consider wheel offset, and tire size as well as the shim thickness.

Remember that with the 20mm spacers you need to use longer bolts.

PS: I have 15mm on the rears and, 10mm on the front and the wheel are flush with the fenders with the 19" Carrera Classics

rdass623, I would have thought that all OEM 18" wheels have the same offset and that all Michelin PS2s, as per OEM spec., would fit the same (width and height) so I'm not sure what I'm missing?

Thanks Gilles, and yes, I believe that all spacers require longer bolts. Could you please post some pics of your car showing the wheel to wheel well spacing from the side? I realize that you have 19" so they'll be a bit different.

in your original post, you did not specify oem 18 wheels, and not all Porsche wheels have the same offset. for the 18s I have on my 987, I need 25mm spacers for the rear clearance. aside from that, the only way to be sure of fitment is to measure the wheel lip or the fattest part of the tire for clearance. once you get your measurement, just multiply the number of inches by 25 and you will get the size converted from inches to mm. if you come out with a measurement like 23 mm, opt for a 20 mm spacer rather than a 25 to avoid the possibility of interference

Or use a ruler that has mm on it.

So I finally did it. 10mm front and 20mm rear from ECS Tuning. Beautifully made and they arrived in 2 days after ordering. I'm very happy with the results and wouldn't good thicker, especially in the rear...looks great IMO!

Looks great. Hows the handling?

Perhaps because I read so much about spacers not having any affect other than aesthetics, I only notice a bit less body roll in tight turns and perhaps a bit more centering of the wheel...the car wants to go straight and requires a bit more effort to begin a turn. I find it looks much aggressive like some of the 911s.

5mm maybe not much, but 10mm and 20mm will make a difference. The car should track through corners better.
