99 - I have the temp display, does that mean my OBC is "turned on"?

I have a 99 Boxster with turn signals that will not cancel. From the sounds and feel of it, I think it's a mechanical failure inside the steering column. So, I'm thinking about getting a replacement multifunction stalk assembly to swap it out.

So, that gets me thinking, I don't have the OBC (on board computer) option currently, but supposedly all I need to do is follow the instructions at the Pelicam parts site, and then buy a few wires and wiring connectors. Oh yeah, and I need the fourth stalk.

But if I gotta buy a 3 stalk multifunction assembly to fix my turn signals, maybe I should just get a 4 stalk version, right?

So, after that long winded intro, my actual question is about the step in the Pelican instructions where they say that I would need to have the OBC "activated" by the Porsche programming tool. Hmm, but they also "kinda" say that if you have an outside temperature display, then it is is already "turned on". Can anyone conform this? I do have an outside temp display, I guess maybe one of the POs had that turned on?

An easy upgrade, the 4 stalk is not difficult to install and it would cure the turn signal problem (which would drive me crazy). If you need a OBC Harness I can fix you up with one

Yes to the question about the Temp display. If you see it, the OBC is enabled. In your situation, the computer is showing the temp - but you can't change to other functions - that is what the stalk controls accomplish.

pdwight's mod works exceptionally well, with the addition of a window or similar switch. did the install on my 00 boxy. but you will also need a durametric cable or have the dealership activate your computer. for the cost, it is your best bang for your buck
