How are you getting 29 mpg? I have an S and get about 17.

kjc2050 05-01-2015 11:20 AM

Welcome; nice car. I also wonder about your mileage - I get ~17.5 with my S, although on a long trip I might see 24-25 mpg.

There is no cure! The best you can do is control it by always owning one and driving it whenever you need a fix.

The only way I'm giving up my Boxster would be for another one.

BTW - I generally get between 22 and 25 mpg. I a long drive at moderate speeds I've seen high 20s.

29 mpg! Never seen it in my 986. Guess it's all in the way you drive. I actually do drive it like I stole it. I can use a 1/4 tank really quick if I push the revs.

That looks exactly like my old one (RIP). There is no cure. It's just something that you'll have to live with....like herpes.

Happy Boxstering.

[QUOTE=Drahthaar;447637] AND 29 mpg???

Downhill.....both ways......with a tailwind. ;)

Welcome to the club! We are all completely addicted. You might as well go ahead and sell any other cars that you might own because you will never go back to driving them again. They will be abandoned and forgotten.

And please don't take it to the track. Trust me, that path is paved with nothing but excitement, exhilarance, and ecstasy. :)

Drahthaar 05-01-2015 12:06 PM

Didn't verify the 29 mpg at the pump....just what the trip computer said during a long Freeway stretch--was actually bumping 30 for a while but fell to 29 by the time I stopped(200 miles, sixth gear, 70ish mph). I should check at the pump and do the math to verify. All-around is less but computer still reads 24.? combined city/hwy. Admittedly not yet driving it like I stole it....but getting closer!!:D

Mine is an 03, S, Manual, IMS, RMS and 60K Service all completed. Don't know if I got a deal or not, but I really don't care anymore....having too dang much fun in it!!

I was driving through Brainerd Mn last weekend and noticed PCA/Nord Stern was at BIR. Stopped in and chatted with some nice folks....looked like they were all having a blast!!:)

Need help?

Leave it at my place if you can't resist the temptation. Don't worry, I can come pick it up. :D

Drahthaar 05-01-2015 01:01 PM

BoxsterSteve---I may have to consider that option if this addiction proves to be progressive..thanks for the offer!!

Perfectlap 05-01-2015 01:28 PM

03S, 60K miles and the IMS was done? Mind sharing the asking price by seller?
No need to divulge the price paid, I'll assume you negotiated.

Do you know how many miles ago the IMS was done?

Drahthaar 05-01-2015 01:52 PM

IMS and RMS done at 45k as as well as having complete service history(only other biggie was axle assemblies.....previous owner drove it too long with cracked CV boots...so axles are brand new)
he was asking 17...but yes, much negotiating...didn't pay close to that. There are alot of 986s for sale...buyers market maybe?!

Someone very smart once said, "Let your money bring you happiness".

I just got back from a 1-day 600 mile trip to Salt Lake City and back, and I got 28.5 mpg going and 27.5 mpg returning. I drove above 75 MPH the whole way and used cruise control a lot. 2003 S.

Retroman1969 05-01-2015 03:36 PM

That's a beautiful choice! I'm afraid it's all downhill from here. We don't encourage 12-step programs, we enable the addiction! ;)

CHRISP357 05-01-2015 04:29 PM

They say the only cure is more cowbell!
I bought my 02 S in Dallas and drove nonstop for 26 hours to Boise. Always between 80 and 140 miles an hour. Average probably 86 or 87. Average mpg for the trip was 26 and change. Checked at the pump, not a trip computer.

No cure:cheers: The grocery store suddenly becomes much farther away;) Congrats on a great looking Boxster! Plus, you get all that for less than a Honda Civic.
