pix of the yellow calipers

just in case the previous thread doesn't get looked at - I added the images after I created the thread. These turned out great and I think they make the black 987 look fantastic! Tell me what you think

EPIQTodd 04-11-2006 07:56 PM

They look terrible and you should immediately send them to me - I will promptly send you my red calipers to save you any further embarassment

mach schnell 04-11-2006 08:42 PM

epiq - and i imagine, strangely enough, you're box will suddenly have yellow calipers? Thanx for considering my embarrasment

I see you ditched the red moldings eh? That 'Technicolor Dream Box' thing wasn't such a good look?

I think the yellow looks attractive, I just would hate to see you get worked-over by a bunch of Porsche cognoscenti in a dark alley for trying to perp the ceramic brakes on a 987 base, when we here at the forum know you're just a Box-lovin free spirit.

I believe the correct term is option faux pas (noun: singular) the representation of certain OEM equipment on a model for which that equipment is not offered as an option.

I worry for you my friend, but hope you enjoy the new calipers in good health. Should you go to the PCA breakfast, I've got your back if any of those 911 owners try to give your 'Black Beauty' the stink-eye.

You know what, I would do that for you. It's just the type of guy I am.

TriGem2k 04-11-2006 09:57 PM

Mach...Who painted them for you??? I would be VERY interested in doing the same for my 986...

mach schnell 04-11-2006 10:28 PM

epiq - sorry, bro - i'm gonna have to keep em.

sd- the red moldings on the air vents didn't stick - they actually started peeling off after the 2nd car wash. gonna eventually paint the vents or just buy the Cayman ones. Thanx for covering my back! I think my shaved head and goatee might intimidate the average 911 owner enough to keep their opinions and thoughts to themselves.
btw, still contemplating the yellow seat belts (that was your suggestion, right?), but think strut braces, springs or an exhaust modification would come before that.

TriGem - I used a place locally, which did some work on my VW Beetle last year. They charged my $130 for parts and labor (the decals I bought from the silverbulbs guy off of ebay). Hoehn, where I bought the car quoted me $1600 for red calipers, ha! ABD Racing in Riverside, which also did work on my VW, quoted me about $400 for a similar method to what I had done for $130 or approx $800 for a slightly better method (their words) that would have also required they keep my car for nearly a week. I'm happy with my choice. If money weren't an issue (and I could handle giving my car up for a week) then I might have chosen the ABD option 2.

TriGem2k 04-11-2006 10:46 PM

$130....That sounds plenty fair to me....And they look good...Is it possible to provide me with a name and contact number as i would like to do mine too...

mach schnell 04-11-2006 11:31 PM

triGem - you sure ya wanna travel all the way out to the IE? you could prob find a place in the LA metro area. If you're cool with coming all the way out here, I'll give ya the info, though. Wherever you end up having it done, you car should sit for a minimum of 24 hours to let the paint cure.

I love the yellow calipers on black (And you really, really need to go buy the yellow seat belts now.

I personally wouldn't paint my calipers yellow just because of the reasons SD987 mentioned, but yeah, it looks good.

are you suggesting that you'd be intimidated by Howie Mandel?

Perfectlap 04-12-2006 08:10 AM

off topic:
you know from the side, with exception of the intake, the 986 and 987 are still VERY similar. Me thinks a bigger restyling is in the works sooner than the 8 years between 1sn and 2nd gen Boxsters.

Nice job, yellow calipers always look great on black and red.

eslai 04-12-2006 10:04 AM

Couldn't the same thing be said for pretty much every 911 that's ever existed? the 993 doesn't look much different than the 996 doesn't look much different than the 997.

Brucelee 04-12-2006 11:55 AM

They look great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice.
