Headlight corners.
I was fortunate enough to pick up a set of clear headlights for $150 that needed the lenses restored. Did that and they look great. They didn't come with the clear corners though so I'm using the amber ones for now. Anyway, for the folks who bought new clear corners, do they match? The photos online look smoked to me and that, I think, will look more out of place than the amber. Used corners are like unicorns, been looking forever. Thoughts? Any photos with new clears on old lights out there? Here's how mine looks now. I'd be replacing the side markers too. I could find a better use of $100 if the new ones are going to stick out and look wrong.

There is only one type of "clear" trim and it is closer to "smoked", but it would definitely look better than amber. :)

Not to beat this to death ( searching found threads 10 years old! ) but this picture is what I'm talking about. It doesn't look bad, just not better than what I already have in my opinion. So is clear actually smoked or is there an aftermarket smoked option as well.

pw, why haven't you figured out a way to make the corner pieces look more clear then smoked? |
Clear (smoked look) and amber are your only options. No aftermarket.
That is just a terrible picture. They are not a perfect match, but better than amber (which sticks out like a sore thumb). http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...photos/102.jpg |

See, that looks right, that's what I'm going for. The picture I posted below looks completely different.

Take the lens piece off (they are ultrasonic welded together) and paint the rear plastic silver instead of the dark grey (the lens piece is only very lightly tinted - most of what you are seeing is the dark grey plastic behind it). ;) I tried it with a broken trim a while back and it looked good, but I can't bring myself to risk breaking a good set by splitting them. My solution (since I am always taking the headlights apart) is to paint the turn signals lower shroud black. Then they will match. ;) |

FYI: They are all the same (Bosch, AL, Magneti Marelli).
I just sold my last spare set on eBay a few days ago for $50...they were like new. :( |

I don't have this problem as mine comes with headlight washers replacing the corners. Could be the option for you?!

The side markers are also more smoked than clear. I just replaced mine with the DEPO LED ones which are clear and look great!

Just by changing the bulb? I found the part number of the bulb: 99963103890 but can't find (yet) a chrome version, like for the tail lights... |
The clear style headlights have an inner amber lens that must be removed. The best way is to open the headlight, but the easiest way is to melt it out with a soldering iron through the turn signal hole.
Search for "soldering iron de-amber". http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...73208F6466.jpg http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/a...18CD3E49A8.jpg |
Thanks, will look into it.
What kind of bulbs are those? PY21W like for the tail lights? |
