But what about the cap? If your old cap was worn and could not hold the required pressure, perhaps air was still in the system and caused your issues. This commonly occurs when the old tank from factory is flushed and the revised cap is not installed, the plastic goes from hairline crack to spilling all of the coolant on the road. Risky.
You also run the risk of having one of those air pockets get hot and it crack the head. Milkshake time... all because of a little $20 piece of round plastic.
