Top won't drop

Put the car to bed for the winter and all was well. Brought it out today and the top won't move. Release the latch and the windows go down but hit the button and nothing. Where should I start? 02 S model, if that matters.
Also, it was on a CTEK tender all winter.

Check fuses and top relay.

CHRISP357 04-20-2015 05:53 PM

How the bleep do you get the cover off the fuse box without breaking it??

Never mind, just forced it.

healthservices 04-20-2015 06:02 PM

lol yeah mine stuck a little the other day. Stick your finger in the hole and pull...

CHRISP357 04-20-2015 06:19 PM

Fuse is good, how do I check the relay?

CHRISP357 04-20-2015 06:33 PM

Ok, found the problem. Hand brake switch. Now, where is that switch located?

healthservices 04-20-2015 06:39 PM

Have to pull the console to get to the switch

Its a $5 part under the hand brake. Kind of need to pull the console to get to it, The easier solution is to bypass the handbrake by grounding a pin on the top relay. I've been running like this (also bypassed the speed control) for 5 years without a hitch.

Boxster Projects | Parking Brake Sensor Switch

gives you a couple ideas

dghii 04-20-2015 06:47 PM

Top bypass the hadbrake, pull the top control relay, bend pin 15 out of the socket and ground it to a nearby ground.

To drop the top while in motion, bend pin 18 out of the socket.

Reference Mike Focke's top section on his Boxster Page.

Today's project! Please, when your membership is up, allow me to renew it as a small thanks.

I had to change that switch, removing the console is pretty easy

OR.......replace the module with a Comfort Top module.
