Weight of 2004 Boxster Engine and some other big components

Any one know offhand approx weight of the 2.7L engine for 2004 Boxster? I am going to be replacing those with Electric Motor, batteries and other parts in my conversion and would like to know how much weight I have to play with...

Other parts (that have significant weight) that I will be not using are:
  • Gas Tank (therefore no fuel!)
  • Exhaust system complete with cats and all

Any one who has shipped these parts may have the information. I will be able to weigh the exhaust system and the tank when I take it out but cannot weigh the engine easily...:)Unfortunately I missed on taking the car to the scales before I started taking things off to compare the before and after...

Thanks for your help.

According to the workshop manual, the engine weight is 188kg (178kg tiptronic)

Thanks Martsink. That helps. I should be able to weight the other items.

188Kgs is ~414 lbs. Not a whole lot to work with for me as I decide on the batteries I need to put in. No wonder it is a challenge that everyone who is converting faces...:)

That's a pretty cool project. Are you going to start a build thread?

Yes, I will. Shortly...

Thanks.

What is the weight of a full gas tank? It should help your weight budget. Water is about 8 lbs. a gallon. Assuming gas is similar, you have ~125 lbs from the fuel. Add the tank, fuel pump and sending unit might get you another 20 lbs.

I read somewhere years back, Car & Driver I believe, that gasoline weighs 6 lb./gallon.

Correct! I use 6.3 lbs/gallon to calc fuel weight for my race car.

Very good info. I was just giving a guesstimate as I figued it'd be close..

I also found a reference to 6.25 lbs/Gal. So, considering about 17 Gal tank it will be about 106lbs for the fuel. Say about 20 pounds for the tank(?) makes both around 126 lbs. for the tank and fuel...
