Car Key'd

Thought I'd share a story with you guys as im bored at work :D . This past Saturday I took our Lexus LS430 to the mall (South Cost Plaza, Costa Mesa) as the boxster had a dead battery. I parked the car AWAY from everyone becuase I am always very cautious regardless of what car im driving. I come back about 3hours later and the entire drivers side of the car was keyed. Front fender all the way to the rear trunk. Up, down, left to right, every way possible.

What kind of sick people do that?

I was soo pissed, went to mall security and watched the security tape. It turns out it was 3 "Kids" age anywhere from 17-23. Call in the local police department and filed a case. According to security those 3 kids had been seen around before.

Hope those bastards get caught.....

Hey James isnt Burbank supposed to be a REALLY NICE neighborhood?

redman12 04-10-2006 04:07 PM

Yeah, 17 and up would do that kinda thing. Yes, they will definitely get caught eventually and pay for the damage they did to your car. Hate people like that. Nothing else better thing to do than ruining someones car. Give as an update though why they did it when they get caught.

For the most part. But this happened in Orange County area. Then again the mall i was at (south coast plaza) is very very upscale place....Go figure

Have you ever heard the sound of an aluminum baseball bat on a kneecap???????/

98Boxster98 04-10-2006 04:51 PM

TriGem - man, you had a bad streak with cars the last few days! Hope things get better fast.

mach schnell 04-10-2006 04:54 PM

even better - have you seen the MRI of a mangled knee - while you're at it, an acute epidural hematoma with significant brain swelling not only looks pretty cool on MRI, but the ensuing sequelae of devastating neurological events usually renders such wasteful products of society inept to key further vehicles. I'd suspect the aluminum bat would produce such things when coming in contact with one's cranium at high velocity!

AUDIOGUY 04-10-2006 05:07 PM

Sorry about the Lexus! I cant understand why people do that type of random damage. Hopefully you have filed a comprehensive claim with your insurance carrier. These types of claims dont affect your premiums. Make sure you find a high quality collision center to fix her up!

If you have any claim or body shop questions, let me know I have been in the business over 10 years.

Best of luck!

I guess I am more of an auditory guy but I like your imagery too!

BuffaloBoxster 04-11-2006 04:50 AM

My Box got keyed last summer at a movie theater in an upscale neighborhood.

I feel your pain.

RandallNeighbour 04-11-2006 06:23 AM

I feel your pain all the way down in Texas. I'd be furious.

I'd also sue the mall and the security company in small claims court for their part in the negligence, even if they say "park at your own risk".

Just the hassle factor of it for these corporations will make them kick butts all the way down the line to be more watchful in the parking areas.

bigislandboxster 04-11-2006 08:37 AM

Sorry to hear about this......Jealousy and envy are everywhere unfortunately. My guess is they will catch them if they are known to be around that area, and if they were dumb enough to do that, they'll probably come back to the scene of the crime.....I say sock it to the parents of the kids....Let us know how this all comes out for ya... ;)

ralegen 04-11-2006 09:19 AM

Those.. mutha.. f*rs.... Those types of kids really need to pay for all the damages and more. I think I would be happy if someone keyed my car; cuz then I can have my insur company give me a new paint job! However, after that, I wouldn't want anyone to key anything. Sorry to here that; especially from South Coast?! What's up with that?

Trust me you don't want a repaint unless you have serious problem already. Diminishes value, long term color match is a problem, insurance not likely to paint entire car to near original standard.

Just pray some idiot does happen upon your car!

And I agree with your assessment of the perpetrators maternal sexual preferences.

Pilot2519j 04-11-2006 10:18 AM

Freaking idiots

The solution is as practiced by our Arab breathren a simple double digitectomy. I know of no other solution. The procedure is quite efficient since all you need is a rusty shrub trimmer. With a snip here and a snip there and snip snip everywhere look ma no fingers!

TriGem2k 04-11-2006 10:39 AM

According to the bodyshop we are lookin at $3750 to repair... Yep lifes a ********************....

Good thing it was the Lexus and not my car....This poor car always takes the abuse...It rarely leaves the garage and when it does BAM....Its a 2001 LS 430 (first year of the new body) and it only has 17K miles on it.....Its been rear ended (lightly), Broken winshield from a huge rock, and cracked headlight from some**************** on the road, and now this....Kinda feel bad for it

denverpete 04-11-2006 10:47 AM

Bastards! A digitectomy is too good for 'em!

I remember in my teens my Dad had spent 5 years restoring a '50 Chevy pickup (my first vehicle and still my favorite). For every Dad related occasion we would pitch in for some new part or update. Finally, after 5 years of restoration he had it painted a light grey with a burgandy pinstripe (to match the new burgandy houndstooth interior). The following Sunday he came out to find a HUGE gouge down that beautiful hood, across the shapely fenders, and through the painted grill. I seriously thought it might be the first time I'd see him cry. Luckily he had extra paint mixed.

I've never completely understood the phenomenon of "needing" to destroy or mar something beautiful.

I hope to hell they (or you) catch the bastards. Some dark alley would be appropriate....

KRZTACO 04-11-2006 01:21 PM

Wow

That blows.

I go to that mall all the time and park in the garage right next to the police car and camera.

Sorry James that sucks.

So is the insurance comp. going to pay for a repaint?

There is the MOST AWESOME shop right down the street called Insurance Collision Center in Santa Ana. Lambo's, Ferrari's, Porsche's in there all the time. The CLEANEST and LARGEST body shop I have EVER seen. Plus I used them with my totalled Audi A4 not too long ago.

I will take the car to GOLDEN HAMMER in LA...They do Bently's, Ferrari's, Porsches...ETC...The are the ones who painted and installed my skirts on the Boxster...Great work, family has gone to the since 1978 according to my dad....

We will pay out of pocket for the repairs....$3750 isnt that bad, and its much easier than dealin with insurance.

986Jim 04-11-2006 02:53 PM

Lets see some pics of the damage!
