Cleaning up the lug nuts.

I got bored today, and as I was removing the locking lug nuts anyway, I decided to throw the lug nuts in the tumbler for a bit, they were looking a bit snotty. The first try came out pretty good, but I am still going to put black covers on them.

You can probably tell the difference between before and after. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428701057.jpg

Looks much better. I have not used the caps, but have talked to people that have the caps and they stay on extremely well.

Yep! I used walnut media and some polish. Some were too far oxidized to look pretty, but they cleaned up nice. I put the black caps on anyway. I got the regular luv nuts to replace the locking ones from Woody.

I need to do this to mine. I have about a shoe box full of rusty lug bolts.
Just to clarify, I didn't sell him the rusty one. ;)

As a matter of fact, the ones you sold me are the nicest! Almost perfect!

How right you are! I just took one of the cruddier ones and cleaned it up with the dremel with the wire wheel attachments. Took only a couple of minutes. I might even go back and redo all of the lug nuts. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1428794377.jpg

And just for kicks, I am curious how Plastic Dip will hold up. I have 3 spares, so looms like more experimentation is in order!

As a very important side-note, I can not stress strongly enough to wear gloves and eye protection when using the dremel with the little wire wheels! The wires can and will break off and go flying!

Don't forget the anti-seize!

On the current car, I just painted them Rust-Oleum satin black and called it done.
