So, how's your day?

Went for nice 1 hour drive this morning after changing the plugs and oil. Rocky ran great. :D Stopped and had new tires put on, now Rocky feels great on the highway. :D :D got caught in a little rain noticed I need new wiper blades. Stopped picked up wiper blades and smashed my windshield

KRAM36 04-04-2015 03:34 PM

That sucks. How did you smash the windshield?

RedTele58 04-04-2015 04:19 PM

Swing the arm up to replace the wiper blade. Remove the wiper blade. Accidently hit the wiper arm w/ no blade on it and the spring tension snaps it down on the windshield. Nothing but spring loaded metal wiper arm against the windshield. Ouch!

It's pretty self-critiquing...

After that you'll learn to put a big thick folded towel down against the windshield before you change the blades.

Ask me how I know... :D

Wow, didn't know the windshield would break so easily. When I had my winter tires installed I went ahead and had them put new wiper blades on at the same time. Glad I did and now I know from now on to be very careful and use your towel method.

I feel your pain.

When I was pulling the Boxster out of the repair bay at the local indy this morning, I cut the turn too short and dented/scraped the right rear quarter panel. All my fault. Dang, dang, dang!

I'm hating this thread, but lots of good information. Thanks for posting.

Duquette5 04-04-2015 05:17 PM

I almost always place a towel or roll of paper towels under the arm. Today I was rushing a little. Dooh.

Sorry to see I'm not the only one having a bad day.

steved0x 04-04-2015 05:36 PM

I have heard the wiper/windshield thing before. Ouch!

Maybe it will improve the aerodynamics of your car. :D

My son did the same with his 944 about a month ago. Painful. That commercial speaks the truth, we are only human.

Sorry to hear about your windshield!

I sure lucked out last month. The tarp covered, snow piled wood stack fell over against the Boxster. Freaked out until I was able to dig enough snow away to move her. Not a mark or dent anywhere. My stars were sure aligned! I don't park there anymore (duh !).

Qmulus 04-05-2015 07:24 AM

To the OP, does it look kind of like this?

I installed my IPD plenom and GT3 tb in the Cayman yesterday.

Tomorrow I get my Tarrat lca bushings installed.

So how much is a new windshield. Mine has several stone chips and couple of scratches so I figure it is about time to replace..

Duquette5 04-05-2015 01:33 PM

Qmulus - exactly like that. Except I may have thrown a small temper tantrum and broke the new wiper blade in half.

Duquette5 04-05-2015 01:34 PM

Sailing1 - not sure. Here in Massachusetts windshields are covered under our insurance.

My son replaced his 944 windshield for $275, I can't imagine the 986 would be much more if at all.

$100 (comprehensive deductible on my State Farm insurance). I doubt you will get one replaced professionally for $275. I think $500-700 is more like it (not OEM glass).

amagalla 04-05-2015 03:06 PM

I can tell from experience, that a new window will cost you about $500 with the installation.

I'd still be on the ground kicking and screaming. Thanks again for the post. You've changed the way I change wiper blades.
