How many pilots on here?

Hi, I am a Student Pilot currently taking flying lessons at a local flight school in NJ. I am interested to see how many other Boxster owners on here currently fly for work/leisure or even plan to in the future? My father was a Pilot(Military) and I moved base-to-base all my life so I guess I sort of had it in my blood. It was my dream to fly for the military as well but my weak eyes were a disqualification. My dream now is to live on an air park and fly as much as I want and maybe eventually instruct to make my living. It seems likeit will be a few years before I can do that. :)

Chime in.

I have my private pilot and my glider pilot license.

I spent 23 years in the USAF as a navigator on the KC-135R; the big air refueling jet. Along the way I spent 5 of those years as a liaison officer to the US Army in a close-air support/air liaison officer role. I've seen the world from one end to the other.

Now that I'm retired I work as a range control officer on a joint-use Air Force/Army bombing range. I'm still around military aircraft everyday.

I couldn't have had a better career.

Plus 1 for Private Pilot!!!

I work as a Test Pilot to pay for my Porsche addiction... :-)

student pilot here, 15 hrs not yet solo'd, but ready. I fired my last CFI. Currently flying a C-150, but have been in C-120, C-170, and a PA-28. I love the C-150 by far the most. I like to hop off my Busa and step into a 150. Yea, life is good.

texomawaves 04-03-2015 01:58 PM

I thought I was on the Hayabusa forum. Correction: I like to step out of my Boxster, and into a C-150 :)

Private -multi engine- floats. 0360 powered Glastar taildragger + Aerocet 2200 floats. Boxster spent the winter in the hangar with the Glastar-nestled next to the floats.

Viper10000 04-03-2015 04:29 PM

Single engine commercial, multi engine private, instrument airplane. Unfortunately I don't fly anymore. No time. Became an air traffic controller instead.

Pdwight 04-03-2015 04:43 PM

Does RC Count ?

I had to ask :)

flaps10 04-03-2015 05:20 PM

Commercial single and multi, CFII

My job is flight deck design.

After a lapse in flying I am back at it, this time just for fun

My passion is mountain flying

steved0x 04-03-2015 05:24 PM

PPL SEL around 150 hours, mostly C-152 and C-172 and around 30 hours in a Zenair CH-701.

Lots of fun but the last time I went up was around 2003.

CHRISP357 04-03-2015 05:48 PM

Never ask a man if he's a pilot! If he is, he'll let you know. If he's not, you don't want to embarrass him...
Private pilot, everything from a Pitts to a Baron. Learned basic aerobatics in a Citabria then moved up to RV-4s, followed by a Marchetti SF260. Love low and fast, high and upside down.

CHRISP357 04-03-2015 05:50 PM

Side note, these Porsches feel like Pilots cars.

78F350 04-03-2015 06:50 PM

Just helicopters. Preferably at night in dark, vacant air.

BIGJake111 04-03-2015 06:51 PM

Oddly enough I always had an interest in the Air Force, but my build and desire to be a somewhat viable family man has steered me away.

Regardless I want a private license, any suggestions on at what age i should begin pursuing this?

As a side note the band teacher at school used to have a boxster and now has a cayanne GTS and an air cooled 911, he is an Apache pilot in the guard.

Thanks for your service. I started in Hueys, but flew Hawks most of my career. Civilian now.
We were pretty sure that strike was a duck, but it was hard to be certain. It was a good thump when it hit (125kt/144mph), but I didn't think there was much damage 'till we smelled it. Crew joked that they though the smell was me. Guts on my shins. We continued to our destination (not much further) and had it trailered out for repair.

I've been flying for 38 years now. I started before I had a driver's license. My mom had to drive me to the airport for my lessons. The original plan was to get most of my experience in the military but when the time came, the Navy had different needs than mine(they decided my left eye wasn't perfectly round so they wanted me in the back seat, thanks, but no thanks!) Thus I have one, yes one week in the Navy. That was back in 1984. I started working on the rest of my ratings and then began instructing full time in 1986. From there I was flying for a Part 135 outfit that had Twin Comanches, Aztecs, a Navijo Chieftan and a King Air 90. Lots of variety, flying all over the Midwest at all hours of the day and night in some of the worst weather Mother Nature has to offer. There are a lot of stories there! I was hired by Simmons Airlines in 1989, first on the Shorts 360(the box that other airplanes come in and no autopilot:D) and then the ATR 42 and 72. I have been with AAL for the last 17 years flying the 727, MD80 and now the 777. It hasn't been the easiest path and there were many very lean years, but no regrets:cool: I have and continue to see some pretty incredible sites. I have never once dreaded having to go to work which is more than most can say. Very blessed:cheers:

Here is the sun setting in LAX behind one of the 777's engines.

Had my PPL for about 12-13 years now...

haven't flown in years though because it is extremely expensive to rent. If funds ever become available, I hope to purchase my own plane (experimental...probably a kitfox 7) as owning it yourself and being able to do the maintenance and AI on your own experimental seems to be the only remotely affordable way to enjoy aviation. GA aircraft are $$ to purchase and $$$ to maintain. For the performance you get from a 172 you can buy/build a plane that will run circles around it assuming you have the time. I started out in 172's a few weeks before 9/11....needless to say that put the brakes on my flight instruction for a little while. I had a heck of a time scheduling lessons with my instructor as he had another job and between that, his apathy, college, bad weather, and the planes always down for maintenance I just about gave up. I finally had enough and went to another flight school and things were my more professional there. I started training again on a Socata Tampico (POS) which they eventually sold and finished training with the Diamond Eclipse (katana) which was a great plane to fly and it was actually younger than I was:p. If I had the insight when I graduated HS I would have gone the aviation route as growing up I always knew I wanted to be a pilot. Alas I went to college and got a Bachelor degree like everyone tells you to do but I regret it every time I board a plane to fly some where.

otmike 04-04-2015 04:03 PM

Private pilot, instrument. Sold the Glasair just over a year ago. I enjoy flying but decided to do other things once I retired.

BOOTLEG 04-05-2015 04:00 AM

Commercial, Instrument, A&P. Bought a Cessna 140 wreck in 1994 and brought it home in pieces on a modified snowmobile trailer. Completed rebuild and got bored flying it after 100 hours. Looks and flies great but Hangar Queen for last several years. Switched to motorcycles and sports cars.

Just got my first Boxster last week! And yes, these are cars for pilots; especially fighter pilots. I recently retired from the Navy and I flew all variants of the F/A-18. Did that for 15 years. I now fly Hawker Hunters and provide adversary support to the US Military. Fun job. Not only do I still get to fly airplanes, I get to drive my Porsche to the hangar!

Taipanic 04-08-2015 10:17 AM

Wanna be future pilot. Had started taking lessons in the early 90's on an ultralight with floats but kids & other responsibilities took precedence. Would like to get my PPL or Sport Pilot license at some point.

amitmishra4 04-08-2015 12:43 PM

Thank you to all of you that served. There certainly are a lot of pilots that own Boxsters!
For those that are GA pilots and looking for a little bit of the thrill that military pilots enjoy, there is a civilian dog fighting school called AirCombatUSA - Air Combat USA.

I flew with them last year and had a heck of a time going up against my dad (He flew a few aircraft but retired flying the F-16) . He actually had a great time back in the saddle too. If anyone wants more information, feel free to ask, but there is a lot of information on their site. All their instructors are ex-military as well.

I think a buddy of mine from high school flies out of there, his name is Mike and he used to fly the A10.
