Shift cable end - is this bad?

Tonight, while trying to tighten up my short shifter, I tried removing the shift cables and one of the mounting clips snapped off. Is this bad? Even without the clip, I couldn't remove the cable from the assembly as if the thing was glued in place. Do I need a whole new cable?
