Coming from the left rear suspension. Sounds like the bed in a cheap motel, or the Jode family going to Californ-y to escape the dust bowl.
The shop thinks it's the lower control arm, and I'm thinking the strut.

I would spray, one by one each bushing on the suspension with silicone until the sound goes away. Thats your bushing.

^^^^concur^^^^ keep spraying until the squeak goes away. the first application is usually not enough to penetrate into all the nooks so you may need several applications. don't forget to spray down the sway bar bushings also

It could be the roll bar or control arm bushes - but the control arms usually knock or rattle not squeak. I found my squeaking to be the roll bar....
Roll bar bushes are the easiest - it really only takes 30 minutes to undo the 4 x bolts around the bushes and 2 x bolts at the drop links to access the rubber bushes. Remove the bushes & grease with lithium based grease and away you go.
Your front roll bar bushes will not be far from requiring greasing too.

Have been spraying various joints and bushings with no luck yet. Will concentrate on roll bar bushings next. Don't want to blow $600 on an entire control arm replacement if the solution is simpler than that. ;)
Problem is, it's hard to get at everything without lifting the car. Sounds like the creak is low and forward of the wheel.

I also know that first thing in the morning it didn't creak, so it's something that can be lubricated by morning dew. ;)

Sounds like a rubber bushing, but I would also put a pin prick in the lower control arm boot give that a squirt, after letting that work in, see if that helps. Of course it only a diagnostic tool, its not a fix

I had identical issue up front. Ball joints. Spraying did not fix. 1-800 new control arm did.

My front left ball joint is creeking also, spraying hasn't helped me either. Going to get new arm fitted when it goes in for service.

Squeeky Ball joint. Fix it like this. Perhaps use a needle to inject WD40 to preserve the boot as a slit will open up after some time unless you reseal it.

Yeah i tried the injection method using the white lithium grease, but with no success

Spraying it doesn't reduce the noise, but it's clear a control arm is needed either way.

If one side has worn out, you can bet the other side is also ready to be replaced, not to mention the control arms too......
