Upholstery Ideas...

Sooner or later my seats will need to be either redone or replaced. The driver seat already has a case of skin cancer at the left hip/lumber region. I was thinking of ideas and I thought this would look kinda cool... (see photoshop below) What do y'all think?

I like it because that's pretty much what I want to do except the insert gray portion I think I going to try alcantara (suede.)

denverpete 04-09-2006 12:28 PM

I think that would look fantastic!

Can you photoshop me a supercharger?

ralegen 04-09-2006 08:26 PM

How much do you think this will cost?I would love to do mine too; I even thought of going a cheap route. I think there were seat covers that "supposedly" covered our seats really well. These covers went for a little over $100 on ebay, but I wasn't able to run into them again.

As most things Porsche, it's not going to be cheap. For example, GAHH has replacement seat covers for $1500 in standard colors. So I anticipate just a little north of that figure. I've only had casual conversation with upholsters on this. It's not something I can do soon, though (middle of the pack priority.)

I don't see why the price would be any different on a Boxster as a Miata or something. Seats are seats. I've noticed when a dealer sends cars to an upholestery shop for leather (cars that aren't available in leather), the mark-up isn't ridiculous... $800 or so.

That suede-like idea sounds a-ok to me! It would look better/less shiney than leather. I'll have to call some shops around.

I hope you find a good deal soon because I think it going to feel better than just smooth leather in the Texas heat. Not to mention, it's going to look cool! I describe my current interior as Unrelenting Gray.

By the way, I should have never watched your video with you dancing with Regina. I passed by the aerobics spinning class today and guess what song was playing? Guess what came to mind? You've ruined me, Jeph, just ruined me.

Jeph-er-ry,

What size wheels are you sportin'? Are they the Carrera classics?

And are you running spacers? Because your wheels come out nice and flush with the bodywork.

Jeph 04-11-2006 03:43 PM

98Boxster98, Sorry to have ruined your life. I have that effect on people. That's cool that you thought of the big dance routine when you heard that song (but was it the English or Spanish version?). I'm suprised that you people are clicking that link to watch that video! Good times...

I'm in no hurry to get the new interior, I wear the current one out a bit more...

Rail26, those are 18" Carrera Replicados! 18x8et 50mm and 18x10et 47mm to be exact. They're from the dude on eBay that advertises "Fits Boxsters without Spacers!" Lemme check... yeah, this dude. (type this number "8016808316" in eBay's search to see the actual auction)

socratic, no spacers needed. That's just how these particular rims were constructed. I really like them too. The flushness is off the charts!

They don't have PORSCHE listed in their intereior search.

I think people are clicking that link because even the remotest possibility that the innocuous dancing in the video would segue into soft-core porn is worth investigating...

Segue...whoa. I don't know what kind of internet sites you are used to being on, but we don't use words like that here. This is a family site. We prefer smaller more kid friendly words like...soft-core porn.

Right, I noticed that too, but I'm pretty sure they can do custom work too.

Looks like a lot of work just to run to the Bell for a Beef Mexi-melt and a Mountain Dew...

Plus it looks like those seat barge in on some everso valuable leg room space.
