01 Boxster S Value?
 

Hello all. I'm the 3rd owner of my beloved Boxster and the values seem all over the place, so I'm hoping for some guidance. Seal Gray, Boxster Red full leather. Glass rear window. 6spd. Sport Touring pkg, Design pkg, Heated Front Seats, Self Dimming mirrors & rain sensor, PSM, Xenons, Headlight Washers. Just turned 90k miles with the 90k service just completed. Most Boxster gremlins have been sorted. LN Engineering IMS, RMS & Clutch done at 66k. Water pump done as well as AOS. Coolant expansion tank done. Both CV boots done. (Aftermarket one weeps a bit of grease, dangit! Rebuilt one is fine) Oil changes every 3-5k. Have a multitude of other small repairs. Runs, Drives & sounds great! Issues, Rear ended 1/2007 but my PPI at Poudre Sports Car didn't indicate damage. (I see minute flaws in paint, but perfect color match) Paint is shiny and in good shape. Interior shows a bit of wear, but my current mechanic, Scott @ Mcilvain Motors, says its cleaner than most. Remote keys have a mind of their own. Headlight washers inoperable (I believe it needs the tube & sprayer unit) I have loved this car since day one but need to go down to 1 car.I've looked on Nada/KBB as well as the usual car sites and they indicate low $8k to $18k. Recommendations on a fair price would be much appreciated!

I'm in FL so I don't know how helpful this is but I'd peg your car at $10-11K. Doesn't mean you wont get more but I think this range is fair.

14 ish maybe .... I have an o2 box s with 121,000 and look alot at prices and unfortunatley not much value. I would put mine at 12,500 but would post for 14 because of many extras which go with the car. I think an educated buyer is more desireable as to being able to understand the value of your work. I would start high and go up from there.

Sorry I thought mileage was 60k. at 90,000 ....Gosh 12,500?

The car has very nice options, that's a plus. The headlights are from a 2003 or 2004 Boxster, is there a button on the dash for the washers? The LN Engineering IMS is a plus. Key FOBS are not cheap, that's a negative, rear ended with flaws in the paint and 1 CV boot weeps are negatives.

When I bought my 2001S 2 years ago, I paid 13,500 for it in California. It had IMS and RMS done. I could have sold this car here in Canada for about 18,500 Canadian dollars which was on par with the USD at that time. Our dollar has dropped 20 cents against its American counterpart in two years so buying a US car is not very attractive for me at the moment but I love seal grey, and I would readily trade my tip for a manual. Look on Cars.com for comparable cars and try for the upper middle of the range. Everyone will want to bargain you down so be prepared to be flexible.

That is a nicely optioned Boxster S with some good maintenance. Right colors combo too. In '01 that car was north of 60K. I would start out at $12,500 and see where it takes you. GLWS.

I don't think so. I have the same headlights on my '01 S that came with the car when I bought it in '01. Including the headlight washers that were a $225 option.

Bought my 01 S with 50k miles 3 years ago for $15K so I agree that $12,500 would be a good starting point and expect to be haggled down a couple thousand.

You won't get much for all the options unfortunately on a 14 year old car

The spread is wide because prices vary so much by zip code. If you want to sell quickly put it on eBay with a buy it now price on the high side. Most likely it will not sell in the first listing but you'll get many offers offline especially if you include contact info. You can work out a deal that way and arrange to have the car picked up or shipped. Often, you get people who search by zip code and are close by. Don't be afraid to list it more than once the longer you wait the more bidders, the higher the price.

From what I can see, 3.2's go quickly if they are well maintained. The one downside is that you've got that prior accident. Still I would list it on the high side to see if there bidders who don't care or are just impulsive. Given the IMS/AOS/WP work you've done and options I'd put your car ~$13,500 to a buyer that doesn't want to spend hours looking for a car with the known Boxster issues addressed. For a backyard mechanic familiar with these cars they'll probably go lower but not much lower because they'll know that those are easily $5k in repairs.
Now that these cars are past the 11-15 year mark (s models), I'm finding that although there are a lot of Boxsters in the market, most have a ton of deferred maintenance which is a bigger problem than just the expense for the next owner, they're indicative of a car that was not well looked after engine wise.

tip: get the interior of the car professionally detailed and put in new floor mats. Get very nice pics taken in a scenic location with the top down.
These types of pictures pretty much guarantee that you'll reel in an impulse buyer if one is looking. I can't believe how many lousy pics I see in ads for perfectly nice cars.

it is a great time to be a 986 boxster buyer . I see so many 2.5 and 2.7 cars for under 10 grand now .
987 mk1 cars are really starting to drop under 20k also .

I just bought a 2001 Boxster S well optioned with 67K miles on it from a Chicago dealer last October for 10.5K.

My mistake, what year did Porsche start doing the no amber headlights?

2000 was the first year that Litronic headlight were offered and they had no amber. In 2003 the standard headlight was offered with no amber.
