Rear Shelf Speakers
New to Boxster world with 02 base S and would like to add rear sound. Anyone have luck installing 3.5 inch speakers? Can you share which make you made fit? I do have the shelf there and don't mind modding it to accept it.

Give the search function a try. There are a TON of threads around upgrading the stereo and the rear speaker shelf.

there is a kit you can buy on ebay for around $300. I think Suncoast has it as well, it is the same kit
well worth it. It includes everything speakers mounting plate grills all wiring and clips/connectors I looked at doing it myself, did a search and found a template for the mounting plate, etc at the end of the day, it would have saved me maybe $100 After using the kit, I am glad I did, saved many hours The kit is factory like. Has 2 speakers behind each seat (left & right). You do not need to add an amp makes a HUGE difference in sound quality |
I'm doing this upgrade now (in my spare time). I also bought the kit on eBay.
Click Here Every thing is included including the keys to pull the radio. They shipped fast - received the kit within days of ordering. It's even on sale now. It comes with instructions, not really the best, but easy enough to follow with a lot of pictures. |

I have the suncoast kit in my 00 boxy, it works great to fill out the sound in the cabin of the car.

The Suncoast kit comes from euromotorspeed, same as the eBay kit

Aftermarket head ?
if you have one just buy the rear speaker enclosures that replace the cubby holes (useless) in the rear deck (Pizza Oven). I think they are like $22 each, but some Polk or other good brand driver and install, run 4 wires and wire directly into the head harness....if you do not want to buy the speaker OEM grills which look great but are like 60 bucks a pop you can buy a black wire wast basket from Bed Bath and Beyond and cut grilles to fit and hot glue in from behind (total cast less than 10 Bucks)....total cost under $60 USD and you cannot see the grilles 90% of the time anyway

Take a look at these threads:

Well worth the time and cost. |
Thanks for your input fellas, I like the Pioneer Idea and basket grille. Most cost effective.
