Would this tiny tear in top be of any concern?
My top is in perfect condition except this one tiny spot. And I'm trying to decide if I want to just sew in a new rear window. Has anybody experienced a small tear like this - can I expect it to stay this way or is this just the beginning of it being to unravel and unstitch itself? If it's going to snowball then I should buy a new top...but that's a significant price difference!

Window is bad and top has a hole. Sounds like a good time to invest in new top w/ glass.

2nd picture...it's definitely not a hole. Just the top threading removed.

I'll do the math for you;
Hole = leak Leak = damage Damage = $$$$ to repair $$$$ to repair = pissed off wife Pissed off wife = bad life Replace it soon and live a happy life. :) |
abrasion
my top has a worse cut, doesn't affect anything, but the appearance. top can be an expensive item and tricky to do right. mine has had a heavier gauge plastic sewn in good , except when putting the top down, you must get out at the halfway point and run your palm across it, or else it bunches irregularly and folds wrong to cause a pinch point. :cheers:

My money goes to my cars and traveling...ain't no wife to get in the way of that! ;)
Abrasion is a better word. I'm just worried about it snowballing and unstringing itself (like the ends of a shirt does) - not sure if the top material would do that. But if a worse cut doesn't then I'm probably fine! Can't even really see it unless you're looking for it up close. |
looks more like abrasion, possibly how it is stowing. If its not leaking and it is only small, you can use sail cloth repair tape. The stuff is strong and very good adhesion. You can buy it from a boat shop, example West Marine, it comes in different shapes, sizes and clear color.
