How to turn off light in front trunk?
 

Sorry for so many posts, but it has been a bad week for the Boxster. When I was at my mechanic's yesterday having a new battery put in, they told me to keep a towel under the front hood if i wasn't going to drive the car for a while so that the front hood wouldn't lock again if the battery died (grrr). So, i went out to do that today (once again the car won't start.. see other post) but i noticed that when i open it up a light comes on. this is only going to kill the battery even faster so i looked around for the pressure button that the trun would hit to turn it off when it was closed, but i couldn't find it. I really don't want to be locked out of the trunk again if the battery dies so if anyone knows how to turn this light off i would really appreciate it.

I haven't figured out a way to turn it off, but I do know it just stays off after a while as long as the driver door dosen't get opened. I leave my hood open when I put a battery tender on it when the car won't be used for a while and it stays off until I open the door again.

The micro switch for the trunk is located under the trunk latch mechanism. The simplest way to kill the light would be to remove the bulb. The wires leading to the trunk latch are found by pulling back the carpet from the front of the trunk where you’ll see the plastic connector attached to the nose of the trunk. It took me some time to locate the little weasel since the Bentley manual makes no mention of the front trunk switch. The way I located it was by following the alarm wiring schematic. The switch is a sub assembly of the latch piece it’s self, and now you can purchase just the switch ($75) rather than the whole assembly ($150). Early Porsches used the simple spring loaded posts rather than micro switches, but no longer. The front latch switch is activated by a funky rotary mechanism which was hanging up on my 2000 S, preventing the light from coming on. But I ramble…pull the bulb!
