iPhone 6 holder
Hey guys
I'm new to the forum, just bought a beautiful '01 Seal Metallic Gray Boxster. Given that there is little storage space and I have not replaced my factory radio unit or miniature cup holders...and I still have the CD holder... Can anyone suggest a good car mount holder for an iPhone 6? I'm guessing the best option without changing the dashboard is a holder that mounts to the air vent. My fear with that is it may break the vent at some point. Any experiences or suggestions are welcome! Chris http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1421971276.jpg |
I had the same issue.

I stick mine in the passenger seat crease. If someone's sitting there, next to the handbrake.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been setting it under the parking brake.
Sometimes I use it for GPS so I would prefer a holder that sits near the vents. |
I found custom 986 ProClip works the best. It is designed well, holds the phone securely, looks good, and leaves no permanent marks. No glue, etc.. Cost is about $70+, depending on options. Expensive, but worth it. The rest of the holders I've seen look like junk. Google around for ProClipUSA coupons..
ProClip for 986/Boxster If my Box wasn't sleeping right now, I'd take a pict. Works great with my single-DIN Alpine CDE-HD149BT with red illumination. I use it for navigation, music, phone. |
Check out the products by Brodit. They make mounting points for any car for any device.
There's a 986 specific mount here: ProClip****Porsche****Boxster****1999****852428****|****Brodit My car had the telephone module preparation, so I have the bulge for the handset on the right of the center console. It's flat, so I got their simplest screw-down plate and a phone-specific holder. |
I found the cupholders work really well. Mine's not an iPhone, but similar in size. Slips into the cupholder, cord comes up from below, and it holds it at a nice height to be able to glance at it easily while driving.

The iPhone 6 doesn't even come close to fitting in the cupholder.
My old 4s did sit pretty nicely in the ashtray. |
I use this in my truck, I don't need to mount my phone in the Box since I have the iPad mini in the dash but it would work well. I highly recommend this product, very nice design. I take it on the road for rental cars as well.

I don't have an iphone but my smartphones have always gone into a windshield mount where I can use it as a GPS when necessary.
No having to look down, eyes stay on the road like these heads up gauges on new cars. I place it sideways in landscape mode so that the power plug runs on the right side away from the shifter. You can add the Tranzit Blu blue tooth connector to attach to the back of your head unit so no more need for an auxiliary cable. One of the model comes of the Tranzit Blu comes with a small microphone you can place near the steering wheel for voice-activated services like Google Now for Android or Siri for iPhone. |

Thanks for the suggestions. The Pro clip looks very high quality and fits perfectly. I like the Kenu product because it's simple and stays closer to the eye line. I will get my hands on one of those to test it.
To digress a little, where can I find a replacement for the CD holder , like a cubby hole/dash pocket? |
