Any regrets?
 

After owning your Boxster for a year or two, do you have any regrets? S or no S? Any specific options you wish you had? Would you do anything differently if you could?

Buying a Boxster was one of the best choices I ever made. Regrets? Only that I should have done this when I was younger. It will make you smile every single day. :)

The only potential regret I could have had (but luckily did not) is purchasing a base over the S. A friend of mine introduced me to Boxsters and he owned a base. Don't get me wrong, fun car to drive and it is what sold me on starting the hunt for one.

When I went searching to purchase a Boxster, I luckily ended up buying an S. And after having driven both, I imagine I would have regretted getting a base model. So, if you can find one and can spend a little bit more, the S model is definitely worth it... IMHO

I don't believe in regrets, life's too short!. I got what I wanted (2003 S, and added a hard top). If I wasn't happy with it, I'd sell it and get exactly what I wanted and could afford.

Why do you ask? Do you have any regrets?

No, I haven't taken the plunge yet. I'm aiming to do that in the next few months.

Well, just be aware that like everything else in life, Boxsters are a bit of a gamble. I bet anyone whose IMSB has crapped out has regrets!

My credit union offers additional insurance for catastrophic engine failure. I will definitely take them up on the offer.

Wish I had a glass rear window. The hard top mostly makes up for it, I really like my car! I was apprehensive about the speed yellow going in but it took all of a week for me to become a speed yellow freak!

I wish I had done my homework on this car before purchasing it. Then again maybe I would have gotten scared at the price of fixing it and not gotten it. Prob would have gotten a manual over an automatic. But overall, no regrets

Best thing I've done with money my whole illustrious life. Wish I bought newer since I've spent so much on maintenance and fixing the 'weak' areas...After 5 years of ownership (an eternity for me) I wouldn't even think of parting with Baby.:cheers:

I'm only three months in and this is my first Porsche (01 Boxster S 60K miles) and this is my first rag top. Coming from BMW's I have to say I find the Boxster relatively simple and....quirky....but.......How can I put it? This thing is just seductive! Everytime I go to the garage I end up picking it to drive. Even when it is freezing outside! I can't get enough of the sound and the feel of this thing. It is just so darn easy to drive quickly and makes me grin ear to ear every drive. The Z4M may have to go away in the spring. I actually bought the Boxster to flip but I think it is me that flipped.

The cost is my only (sort of) regret. This 02 S model has probably set me back about 130k at this point. How? Simple. Porsches seem to be addictive. As soon as that 2016 GT4 comes out, I'm getting it. I'm currently shopping for a Cayenne. I'm not getting rid of the 02 though so yes, Porsche ownership can cost you!

I would have sold my car in June of 2008. Used the cash to begin buying my 10 favorite stocks in April of 2009. Bought back the car at half of what I sold it for in the winter of 2009-2010 and maybe picked up a couple of air-cooled fixer uppers for a song to keep for later resale. But my damn crystal ball was on the fritz again. As such I decided to keep the old girl and eat the big repairs instead of committing to the big expense of a newer Porsche when the country was in financial hysterics and 996 Carreras were losing as much as $20K in resale per year. Crystal balls are very underrated...

As far as the car itself? The best rule in my experience when it comes to workhorse Porsches (a.k.a. water-cooled) is to be in by 30K miles and out by 60K. Let the previous owner take the hit on the depreciation and pass the major maintenance costs (~$12K to date @ 90+K miles) onto the next owner. You should always own a Porsche but just not the same one. The one time I didn't have my car for nearly two months much anxiety and depression ensued.

Well, I do kinda regret reading the "renaming 718" thread. That was two more minutes I could have spend dividing by 0. Can't say I care too much about what's in a name.

I was offered a guards red 993 for $31k. I 'stayed on budget' and got the 986. Bad move lol.

Got you beat, I sold my 1997 993 turbo two years ago for $68,000. Loaded with sports seats and all and 42,000 miles.

After 13+ years owning the Boxster S I have zero regrets. Color, options or mods.... all good.

The first time I saw a Boxster I knew I wanted one. Didn't know a damn thing about them or Porsches. I bought a used '99 Arctic Silver Tiptronic with Boxster Red full leather interior with 74K miles on it from a Ford dealership without a PPI. I've had her five years now with 116K miles on the clock, many AX's, DE's at Sears Point and Laguna Seca and have not had one regret or long for another Porsche model the whole time.
