Busy Day

Remember the 2006 Cayman S I bought 2.5 yrs ago to resell? It was a Launch Vechicle. Sold it to a guy in St Joe, MO. We've stayed in contact since the sale.

Earlier this fall, he called and asked what I had in inventory. Said I was plumb out of cars (hadn't bought the VW bug conv yet). He was looking for a blue 11 Cayman S. I started looking for one and wasn't finding any on Craigslist. Mentioned it to my sales friend at Woodhouse that my friend was in the mkt.

Fast forward to a cpl wks ago. I was looking thru AutoTrader and found an 11 CS in blue. Gave him a call to point him to the ad. He said he was now leaning towards a 15 GTS. While we were chatting, I changed my search to the GTS. Lots of new ones but there was also a used one in MN w/ 1800 mi. It was blue and loaded. They were asking $83.9K. I gave him the info and also told him to give my salesman friend a call if he went new.

Last wk he calls and wants to know what I thought trade in would be on his 06 CS. Did some calculating from NADA and figured $22K. He was going to try to set up a trade on the GTS in MN. Got a call from him on Fri and he said the dealer didn't want to make an offer on his car without seeing it and he didn't want to drive 300 mi and find out they wouldn't give him a fair price. So he decided to buy the GTS straight up and negotiated a deal at $81K. I think that's a great deal.

Fri night I get an email from him asking if I'd be interested in selling his CS for him, with a nice seller's fee thrown in. I said sure, I'd give it a shot. We talked yesterday and he wanted to bring it up to OMA today because the weather is unseasonably good. We also talked about how this is not a good time of yr to sell a sports car and it might be til late Feb before 'spring fever' hits.

He arrived this morning around 8am. We chatted for a bit and he headed home. I started modifying my previous ad, updating it with the maintenance that he'd done along with explaining that it was a launch vehicle and why he was selling and how I was involved. It was raining today, so the car was dirty from the trip and it wasn't a good day for taking pics. I posted the ad on OMA Craigslist around noon with pics from when I had it.

About 12:15 the phone rings and someone is calling about the CS. We talk for a few min and then he asks if this is Husker Boxster (actually my 1st name, not HB). I said yes and asked who this was. It was a guy from the Porsche Club and he was my instructor for my 1st DE. He had sold his 964 because it was just a track car and he wanted something he could drive to the track along with driving around town. He almost bought an 09 CS in Seattle but backed out. Then almost bought a 987.1 in eastern IA but didn't get the color (Speed Yellow) past wifey (where's JD?) He said he loves silver. He was going to come over at 1 to look at it.

He arrived along with another Club member. We talk, they look, they take it out for a drive, he wants it. I had put the price at $24.6K in the ad, which was a very good price. He asked if the guy would take less. I say IDK, maybe he'd go down to $24. I call and ask, trying to explain that's the ALL IN price before my fee. He was shocked that I was already selling it. He said he'd take $24. Done deal. In 5 hrs. I can't believe it. Customer is happy, buyer is happy. I have a new record for selling a car, so I'm happy.

Here's the link when I was asking about launch vehicles and VINs.

Very nice Cayman. Sports Chrono, Pcm radio.... Is that Pasm or the sport exhaust button? How many miles? Priced right it seems also. Congrats on the quick sale.

When priced reasonably you would be amazed how quick these cars can turn around. I caught a 78 911 SC project listed for 5k on Thursday. Project car hadn't ran in a few years. I contacted him within an hour of the ad being posted with no reply. Checked the ad an hour later and the price was raised to 8 and it was specified that he wanted emails only and no texts. I guess he got way too much attention for his air cooled bargain.

Launch vechicles came with PASM but PSE was not listed in the options. Kind of strange they left PSE off the list.

When I sold it to him, it had just turned 49K mi. It now has 55.8, so he put almost 7K mi on in 2.5 yrs.
