Saw one at the Phoenix car show. Interesting but kind of ugly. For the money it seems like a good value if you are into this kinf of thing.

How fun would that be in the canyon!!!

Nine8Six 12-05-2014 08:27 AM

Wow! That look like a fun toy for sure

Tried one of those T-rex when I was back home 4-5 year ago. Same toy really... a reversed-trike. I think I clocked it at an astonishing 45km/h fastest... was sure I would have died if any faster :/

The Polaris looks a bit more heavy, safer imo. Or it could all be made of carbon fiber who knows.....

It looks like a reject from a bad "Batman" movie :D

We got the local dealer to bring one to our weekly motorcycle guys breakfast.

It has a chevy engine, I think ~ 140 hp.

Heard funny thing about 3-wheel vehicles: if there's something laying in the road, you will hit it.

san rensho 12-05-2014 11:43 AM

I'll bet that doesn't oversteer at all.

thstone 12-05-2014 11:53 AM

Looks more "rad" than it really is.

2.4L engine making 173hp in 1750 lbs. 0-60 in ~6 sec. $20K starting price.

About the same performance as a 3.2L Boxster S model.

I'd get a used 986 S and upgrade the suspension. Same performance and you can drive it in the rain. :)

BIGJake111 12-05-2014 11:58 AM

Nothing very impressive. But for the price, if you want something new it's pretty cool! Not sure what you can get a lotus 7 for or a Morgan 3 wheeler used but I would imagine them to be superior. Regardless Id say it's a better toy than a boat!

All the reviews so far say it understeers big time. Not what I'd expect having just one wheel out back.

I have to ask...

$20K to start. $24K for the upgrade model which appears to be all cosmetic.

Pdwight 12-06-2014 05:07 PM

WTH is that ?

rp17 12-06-2014 10:34 PM

Hmm I think I would need a test drive or review of it. Could be bad but could be a blast.

Would helmet laws apply since it's a rolling loophole and is a motorcycle?

78F350 12-07-2014 04:54 AM

I work in EMS. We get a lot of customers from 4-wheeler wrecks. I am not sure if those things will be "good for business" or not. I really need the victims to survive the first 15 minutes or so in order to respond.

There was a review of it in yesterday's Wall Street Journal. The reviewer wasn't impressed at all.

It considered a motorcycle and helmet laws apply. If you don't wear a helmet and other appropriate gear you are seriously decreasing your odds of surviving a accident. I'd say these type of vehicles are marginally safer then a motorcycle. I ride and clearly understand the risk and do what I can to mitigate it but you cannot eliminate it.

The Slingshot looks like an overstyled toy IMO. If I were to consider something like that, I would prefer an Ariel Atom. I saw one yesterday at a local cars and coffee get together and if I were in the market for a sunny day/track toy, that would be my choice.

I can't think of who the demographic is for the Slingshot.

There is a local guy making this type of vehicle using some Boxster parts, including the transmissions, shifters and some odds and ends. One of his latest uses a Chevy LS1 with a Boxster 6 speed transmission. Velocity street rails.

BIGJake111 12-07-2014 09:45 AM

The demographic is pretty clear, all the Americans that are unaware of and can not afford and atom. Less car but for less money. Another toy for the affluent country boy... Why... Because it's a pole arrrr isss.
