Recommended winter tires for Boxster

I have a 2014 Boxster with 19" tires and live outside Philadelphia. Does anyone have any suggestions for snow tires with excellent traction. I am willing to sacrifice some smoothness ride for a tire that grips well, I plan to use these on all 4 wheels. My previous Boxster had 17" wheels and drove well with non-studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires but they only appear to make my size tire with studs, something I don't want.

I don't put winter tires on either of my boxsters since I have a C 4 for a winter car, but I have used both bridgestone blizzak and hankook icebear's on the C 4 and have been totally happy with both. Both of them are very reasonably prices as well and do just fine with them front and back.

Seems to me it's an AS tire, then snow tires.

I ran Michelin Pilot Sport AS last winter and through summer. Once you're into powder or slush it's just you and your sense of speed anyway. On snow days it's the truck or wife's car.

I had the bridgestone blizzak in 16'' on my 2000S and was very happy with them.

Now I'm waiting for my Dunlop winter sport 3d to arrived for my 2014 base in 18''

Both have been recommand for snow, which we have ere in Rimouski, Qc. If your looking for more icy grip, there is better.

+1 for blizzaks

I bought a set of 18" for my first Porsche (01S) and have used them on all 3 of the 987Ss I've owned. Great on ice or snow < 4". They ride softer than my summer tires.

Blizzaks all the way. Makes our BMW 325xi like a snowmobile!

I don't have any comparative experience with other winter tires, but I am very happy with the 17" Continental Winter Contacts I have. Provided by the PO, and I'm glad I kept them.

Bummer I didn't put them on yet, as it's snowing today in NJ.

Get a set of beater wheels in a smaller size and mount the Blizzaks.
I have dedicated winter wheels on 18" tires and I'm not sure I would want to go bigger than that. Ideally you want as narrow a tire as possible during winter.

Also, winter tires are primarily for the bite over ice which you experience all winter long, snow is not the main purpose of a winter tire.

All season tires do not address the bite issue over ice much better than a summer tire. And during summer I find the compromise unacceptable, it numbs the steering.
But if you live in an area where seasons change frequently back and forth AS is probably the better option.

+1 for Blizzaks. Ran Blizzaks on my 987 and Nokiens on my 997.2S. Best of luck!

+1 for Blizzaks

I decided I needed a pure winter car, so I bought a Subaru Imprezza and put Blizzaks on it. That car would go anywhere.
