Took engine out but don't know what these are...
Hi guys,
I had a job list to do on my 986 S so I tore the engine out, as you do. One of the jobs I was looking at was an oil leak from the left hand cam cover, once the engine was out the leak didn't appear from the cam cover but from a breather above it 'B'. Should this have a pipe on it going somewhere not just to atmosphere or all over the engine.? Also the sensor 'A' doesn't have a connector going to it, should it.? What is it.? The one on the right side does. http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/y.../missing-1.jpg Thanks for any help guys :) |
It's a knock sensor. The connector is floating around under the intake manifold somewhere, unless it has met with an untimely demise.

Nah there is nothing there, no other cables that seem to be cut or broken either.
Is there supposed to be a pipe on the open vent too.? |
Yes. I'll look at my plumbing (it's all apart) and take some pictures for you and post them here.

I've recently found out that 'A' is a camshaft sensor, but are two connected.?
Thanks flaps that would be great if you could :) |
Well engine back in car and all ok.
I've found that the early 3.2's only had one camshaft sensor as my car is an '01, my engine was replaced in '05 and it had the one with two sensors fitted. I've added a piccy of an early engine for future ref if any ever needs it. http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/y.../oldengine.jpg |
What about 'b'?
