auto trans replacement
 

hi
im about to purchase small project
2000 S with bad transmission
I will probably use audi/vw box
what's my best bet?
will trans from lets say 2002 audi s4 have more aggressive gearing than from a4?
do I need to change computer too , or the one in the boxster will work?

Not sure the S4 trans will work since it's set up for AWD (rear output shaft). Gear ratios should be posted online somewhere for comparison to the stock Porsche gearing. Perhaps an A4/Passat (B5 chassis) would be a comparable fit (if parts are changed, such as the axle flanges).

Why don't you want to go with the proper Porsche transmission?

audi/vw boxes are the same but without P tax
you can get one for 3-400$ compare to porsche 1500-2000$
there is little difference in gearing tho

Looking further in the catalog, it looks like the gear ratio is the same for all of them (Top of page 6). True? I don't know.

Based on that, VW and Audi share some transmissions, which is not surprising at all, but Porsche is different

if you go through the catalog, you will see that there are different housings and torque converters as well
