2nd oil change and UOA

Finished up my 2nd oil change a week or so ago and sent out a sample to Blackstone

Filter was clean, no metal and the report looks good (I think)
The first UOA was Castrol Edge 0w/40 (which is what the PO put in). I put M1 0w/40 in 7/14 and this last time as well
I did a PDS & AX on the last fill of oil, so there was some harder use that the first oil change

At my next change I will have a few reports on M1 0w/40 and I think I will switch to DT40 on my next change and see how it compares.

That looks like great news glad for you. How/where do you get the sample kit?

It appears that you go to the Blackstone website and request a free test kit (analysis is $25)

The first sample doesn't look like M1 to me. What oil was that? The second sample does look like M1.

Jay says that it was Castrol Edge 0w/40 that the previous owner used.

Jake Raby 11-14-2014 11:26 AM

Didn't see that!

Next change in a couple of months will be DT40

I'd stay on the M1 longer before swapping. All the swapping back and forth creates cross pollination and you can't tell whats going on.

It takes two services to remove all the residual from one oil when swapping to another.

When I changed over from Mobil1 0/40 to Castrol 5/40, Jake (IIRC) recommended that I do a "flush" with a high detergent oil, like Valvoline VR-1 Racing Motor Oil 20/50. Which I ran for 15 minutes, drained, and replaced with the Castrol.

JayG 11-15-2014 06:54 AM

so what is the proper procedure to "flush" the old oil?
Jake?

Another good oil to consider, would be Mobil 5W50. Porsche approved. Buy from Amazon. And since you have Mobil in the car already, you do not need to do a flush to get the maximum effect of the DT40 5W40 Driven oil.

Mobil 5W50 has great levels of Zinc and Phosphorus, and great high shear protection. Much better than Mobil 0W40, and as good or better than the DT40.
