My New Boxster

So I finally decided to buy a Boxster this weekend. It's a '99 but the previous owner took good care of it (with all receipts to prove it). He only took it out of the garage when it was bright and sunny outside.

The next day, the plastic window cracked as I lowered the top

It was 7C outside (about 44F), which is above the 0C listed in the manual, but as I later discovered (from reading this forum), the manual is quite wrong.

I'm going to order a glass top from cabrioworld.

Congrats on your new purchase, and sympathies for the demise of the back window.
Were there any marks in the plastic to indicate damage where the little peak typically forms unless you use the chop technique?

The GAHH top is the same as the cabrioworld top, but it's $100 cheaper at cabrioworld.

I'm not sure what to look for. The rear window looked to be in good shape as far as my untrained eye could tell. There were little marks and such, but nothing that seemed out of the ordinary for 5 year old plastic. If I were to guess, I'd say he didn't chop, but he also didn't drive it very much so I'm not sure if that would have mattered.

That sucks.....but it's so funny.

I was worried about putting my top UP at 48 degrees last night.

The new top will be sick though, and you'll never have to worry about that happening again.

get a soft top cover when you leave parked outside for more than a couple of hours. you can keep that top looking new.

Sure thing. The quality's not that good because it's a camera phone.

Hey Brian, congrats on the car! If it makes you feel any better, I too cracked my back window within 2 weeks of ownership. I'm also in the Dallas area and have yet to fix mine (I got a hardtop instead). Where are you having the new top installed?
