It's getting cold...
 

Hi everyone it's starting to get in South Carolina lol and "Darth Vader" will be spending much more time in the garage.What is the best way to address this?A drive a week or what?

You know how bipolar our weather is, it was high 80s last week or so, and despite the chance for snow it'll be the same soon haha! Just take advantage of the good days for some nice driving, as long as the boxster isn't sitting all winter you shouldn't need to put it on a battery tender or anything, just take it out on drives long enough to get it up to operating temp and stay there for a bit, and keep an eye on tire pressure as well.

Lots of threads on prepping your car for the winter on this forum.

It depends if you plan to park it for the duration, or drive it when the weather is nice. I personally recommend driving it when possible (every week or two). Cars that sit (especially, if you don't prep them for it), tend to have problems from things crystalizing, hardening, etc.

If you will be driving in temperatures below 40°, even if it is dry out, you should get snow tires, or at least all-seasons. The rubber compound in summer tires hardens below 40°, and if you take a corner too fast it's like ice skating in two tons of metal. At the very least, drive it sensibly until the tires heat up a bit when it's cold out.

It is getting cold. Toady with the top down it was a little chilly when I was driving in the shade down a tree lined road. Brrrr- Miami winter.

Apparently NJ missed snow by a couple hundred miles of weather patterns yesterday

Last year when we got first snow(Eagles played Detroit), I was driving my boxster, all summer tires, 100 mile in it back from kids school. All was well until last two blocks from my house and I couldn't get up the hill
At least this year I have a 2003 jeep liberty to deal with snow

If you're going to park it for the winter, prep it and don't touch it until spring. The hardest thing on an engine is a cold start, and to just do it for doing it makes no sense.

First big cold front.... 61 degrees outside

I address winter with a drive a day, unless the roads are too icy or the snow is too deep, in which case I drive my F-250 4X4. Since it can snow 9 months of the year here, I run Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires and they work fine, as long as I don't get crazy on ice or deep snow. But as I said, that's what the truck's for :p!

Here in South Carolina it get's about 50/40ish in the winter.It always has a dust cover on and garaged and will never see snow or adverse weather.Sounds like a ride once a week to get it up to temp and all will be well.Thanks everyone for replying.:cheers:

-0.5C here in Uk this morning when I left for work..car warmed up for 15 minutes on the drive before the top came down for a lovely 40 mile B-road drive... sun out, clear blue skies and eventually warmed up to a barmy 3C...............:)

Just can't beat opentop winter driving... she will be driven when it's dry, regardless of outside temps........ we all have heaters after all.... AND THE ROOF WILL BE OFF:D

Yes it was freaking cold on my top down drive back from Palm Desert back to San Diego Sunday. Must have been high 50's to mid 60's. Had to put on a jacket.
