What prompted the color change?

If you are going to go to the expense of a total color change, do something besides a standard color. Guards Red are a dime a dozen, get out of that box, be bold, be different. IMHO

Well... Basically the car was the worst boxster on the planet as far as the dings and dents... The pic attached to this thread is in the very late body work stages. The doors had to be completely covered in body filler. They were so dented up it looked like large hail damage. So, to answer your question, I figured that I'd go ahead and change the color if I had to strip every panel to metal. I bought it silver, but I never really cared for it. I feel like red really updates the look of the car to a more modern look :)

It's resale red;) and Ive always loved French racing blue and I really like the new Porsche color lime gold metallic, but I could never own one in either of those colors. I'd get tired of it. I like the aggressive feel of red.

Now it'll be a cop magnet...

So by the floor jacks I guess this is a DIY?


if you change your mind before you start shooting I would suggest Riviera or Mexico blue.
I love those colors on most sports cars from Miata to Bugatti.

Here are some my favorite Poor-sche colors (as they will make your poor from the tickets).
can't lose with those two-piece Speedline wheels. With some PORSCHE decals on the doors.

We used the highest quality body filler you can buy, and by the end of all the sanding, only the dents had body filler left in them. My father has done paint/body for 30 years and is the only way this project would be possible. Trust me when I say this, it's getting done very professionally :cheers:

It's hard to get a 5+ year old car in Oklahoma without a few hail dings in it. I got a new trunk lid for mine and will probably end up with a CF hood/frunk lid. Can't wait to see the results.

looks great, but curious as to why you did not remove and separately spray the front and rear bumper covers, doors, and deck lids?

Until my Porsche's, most of the cars I've owned throughout my life have been red. Never got a single ticket in roughly 20-22 years of red cars. Speeding tickets in white and gold cars....both sedans. Go figure.

we did!:) we seperately did the door jambs and hood and decklid jambs. all that had to be painted was the outside of the door and hood. no need to go to the hassle of taking the doors off again. Pics of the finished car to come today.:)

It is incredible how much more attention the car gets in this color rather than silver. :cool:

That's a good thing in Oklahoma? Not sure I would want anymore attention than I already get in this car. Especially at traffic lights when I get either the stare down, creepy at night, or the challenge to race from the pimply faced spikey haired kid in the STi or Civic with the coffee can in the back.


You're pretty handy with that paint gun. Nice clean job. I once painted two tiny pieces of fibgerglass for a previous car.
I spent oh... six hours sanding and prep'ing them. And then the rest of the weekend painting it over and over until they look like your result.
Yeah... I won't be attempting that again.
