Goodbye and Hello

Well, folks, I did it. I sold my Boxster and purchased a 2002 CPO Carrera 2. It is black with the Savannah Beige full leather interior. Other options include: Bose, CD changer, advanced technic package, side skirts, and rear window wiper. The car was originally sold in New Jersey (Paul Miller) but I was able to obtain print outs of all the maintenance records (thank you, Aaron) and they indicate the original owner was fastidious about maintenance (whew!). Nice car; even the wife likes it.

The Boxster (2001, Tip, white, blue interior) was a wonderful car: 28/29 MPG on the freeway; the top did not leak one drop through two Northern California winters; and no oil leaks, not even seeps at the seal areas. If anyone is interested, Porsche of Oakland has re-certified it and it is at their showroom.

The Boxster folks I have met are great people, friendly and helpful. When I see a Boxster on the road I'll flash my lights and wave "hello".

Ah, you've "graduated" to a faster, more expensive Porsche. Congrats!

I personally hope you'll continue to contribute here on the convertible Porsche forum. Enjoy that car and drive it like you stole it, and tell us what you consider the differences to be.

Enjoy your new ride and stick around please.

Post some pix soon!

Best of luck.

Sorry you had to give up the Box to move down to a 996. Maybe good fortune will smile on you again and you will be able to move back up to a Boxster! Like the color combo, tho. Enjoy the new baby.

I'm sure most of us on this forum would agree that opening our garage every morning and having to decide which set of key's to grab - those for the Box or the Carrera (you input the respective year) - would be a great conundrum to have!!

I originally began looking at used Carrera's simply to have four seats (my two future Porsche drivers are still small enough to fit comfortably in the rear seats), so that we could enjoy the car as a family. However, my wife made me agree that I'd keep the car through my residency and fellowship training (7 years total - I've never kept a car longer than 4 years  ) - and it became difficult justifying a car that might only have warranty for a few years (not to mention the potential higher costs of maintenance and the incredibly sweet deal on the 987 which allowed my first Porsche to be Virgin). At any rate, I love my Boxster and intend to be the guy who says he still owns and drives his first Porsche. But, I also cannot wait to walk into Porsche (once I'm done with my training) and order my new virgin Carrera exactly the way I want it :D

Finally, I agree with Randall - please do not be that guy who is ALWAYS driving in the right hand lane 25 miles per hour under the minimum posted speed limit! Granted, we probably all love a leisurely drive in our cars every once in while - wearing a :D b/c we know what our cars could do at a moment's notice!! Instead, make the corvette drivers of america (those who don't also own a Porsche ;) ) cry a little every time you roar by!

Wow that is amazing. They sell heavily into the New York City crowd who typically don't take care of their cars too well (why bother when the pot holes will kill the car anyway). How did the car get to CA?

Shouldn't it be hello and goodbye lol... We hope you still post here. It would be easy to contribute and also get info because the 996 and boxster share so many things. Post up some pics.

Yeah well this post sucks without pictures. :D Common we wanna see it at least!

I'm still here

rteichman: Carfax says the car has had only one owner. It spent most of its time in NJ area. The computer printout indicates the last service was at 38,300 miles in 10/04 in NJ. Carfax indicates the car was auctioned in the "western service area" or something like that (my salesperson said that was the western Porsche auction site). It was certified in Oakland, CA at 42,700 miles in 11/05. I think the car was drive from NJ to CA and not driven much in 2005. Possibly, the owner was out of the area or had become a family man. Several other 996s I looked at were being sold because room was needed for car seats for kids.

I'll post some pics when the sun returns to the sky.
