I'm pretty sure it's totaled.

Some dumb a$$ plowed into my parked car this morning. Police estimate he was going 50~60 MPH when he hit the car. No skid marks at all. He might have be on something. I'm kinda sure that the insurance will total it. What do you think?

Total bummer, man!

Sorry for your loss :(

SpikeJr 09-20-2014 03:28 PM

Ouch. Was surprised they told you 50-60mph...if so, then I'm impressed. I would have thought more damage would occur...what's the normal speed limit on the street?

Sadly, it doesn't take much to cause a total loss...some of the guys who purchase / part out cars would probably be of help...if the damage got into the frame my guess would be a total loss at that point....

Timco 09-20-2014 03:40 PM

Looks like it's headed to Cyprus......

amagalla 09-20-2014 03:44 PM

Normal speed limit is 25 MPH, but this guy was high, so no telling what his normal is. Looking at the damage between the cars, his looks WAY worse. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1411256388.jpg

I'll pull the stereo, speakers and all the parts I added to the car before I let it go. The frame is definitely tweaked at least a little. The rear quarter panel and the driver side door are now touching (slightly). For as bad as the accident was, I was really impressed with how well it did.

That really sucks

At least you were not in the car and are not hurt

trimer 09-20-2014 04:11 PM

Try and buy it back if the total it and make some money! The inside and front parts are all probably worth something?

Frodo 09-20-2014 04:16 PM

That blows, dude. And a seal grey no less! That's no good. Seems like they never give you what the car's worth to you...but hope you get a decent settlement out of it..

I'm seriously thinking about doing that. I'll at least take off the stuff that I added (stereo system, spin on oil adapter, etc).

Nooooooo :(

Why is it always a crappy car that crash into ours?

rp17 09-20-2014 06:32 PM

I'm sorry that sux! Easier said than done but time to fall un in love with the car. It would be great to pass on parts to the forum but that can be a pia. Hopefully it is totaled. That car wont be the same but see what was all damaged. Did the driver suffer injuries?

Chuck W. 09-20-2014 07:00 PM

So sorry. The wheels & the top are worth some good money.

thstone 09-20-2014 07:05 PM

Oh jeepers! Not another driver hitting parked car! Incredible!

Same thing happened to me, and yes, my Boxster with similar damage was totaled. (http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/43878-ahhh-my-car-hit-bad-today.html)

Oh, do not remove any parts from the car before it goes to the insurance company, they really frown on that because if the car is totaled then its not your car, its their car and then its theft. You'll have more than enough to argue about with the other guys insurance company without having to worry about a theft claim against you.

For me, it was an opportunity to get a 996 and replace the Boxster :)

Keep us up to date on how everything turns out.

Pdwight 09-20-2014 07:27 PM

I hate to start looking at parts

But I love your wheels, terrible about your car.

gmboxster 09-20-2014 07:36 PM

This makes me sick to my stomach. So sorry ! Glad to hear you are OK however.

Retroman1969 09-21-2014 03:22 AM

I'm so sorry to see that. It just irks me all the more to see such a beauty attacked by a boring POS driven by a complete moron. :(
I'd probably buy it back and use it as a spare parts mule for the next one. Unfortunately it's the victims that usually get screwed in the end. We never get what really have in the vehicles. Fortunately there's plenty nice ones out there of all colors and trims so hopefully you'll fall in love all over again.
On another note, it looks like the Boxster kicked the other car's ass! These cars are tougher than I thought!

BoxsterSteve 09-21-2014 05:45 AM

I'm sickened and saddened by your loss.
He couldn't have rear ended another $100 car like the bucket he was driving, could he?

keysguy 09-21-2014 05:57 AM

Sorry to see this. My only advise is if the insurance companies start to give you a hard time do not hesitate to get an attorney. I tried to take the high road and not get attorneys or threaten lawsuits but, I think sometimes that is the only way to get them to respond. My failing to promptly hire an attorney cost me a month or so of getting to use my car, plus the PITA of having to share a car with my wife. I love her dearly but sharing a car with her on a regular basis would cause lots of issues.

+100.

It took me a year of me arguing on my own to get a fair settlement. Other driver's insurance did everything imaginable to try to get me to settle for less. Let's just say that they did not play fair.

JayG 09-21-2014 06:50 AM

the squeaky wheel gets the grease

The Ins companies could care less about the insured. all they care about is $$$.

Yes, try being nice at first, you might get lucky, but as soon as they start to give you the run around, push back HARD.

When it is not your fault, your ins co is supposed to be your advocate and represent you in the negotiations, how ever they really don't care, so it best to just lawyer up fast.

Once they know that delaying or playing low ball games will cost them more time and $$, they are more likely to give you what you want to get you off their books
