forum rules

This is my first and only forum. I joined 3 years ago and have been told and read some forum unspoken rules like.....Capitalize ( no using i instead of I ) punctuate, no oil questions, did you search first? dont mention the girl car or the Porsche with panties. But I would like to have some more recommendations of rules so I might keep from looking like a jackass as i often do. Did I mention IMS, Jake,Tyres or Tires

Pdwight 09-16-2014 04:49 PM

Be yourself, be honest....I have been treated well

BIGJake111 09-16-2014 04:58 PM

Your dog has a lot of cat features.

gmboxster 09-16-2014 05:39 PM

I'll probably get reamed a new one for this but here it goes. I never understood some of the abrupt rudeness harped upon the people who dare ask questions about oil, oil changes, what kind of tires, etc. If the question (asked just for information) annoys some so much then why not just not respond at all instead of placing a rude reply ? We all are not experts or mechanics. If someone asked me a question in my area of expertise I would try my best to answer them without judgement of any kind. Now dont get me wrong, 95% of the time this forum is excellent but I have witnessed some unwarranted rudeness as well. Just an observation.

Last month I was thinking about making a thread asking about what to do about (@+s.

I am really glad I did a search first. I finally just gave them a box.

Part of the issue is that there is no real answer for tires or oil. Everyone has their own opinion, and eventually it all turns to bikering, and with each new post that asks these questions, it adds more to the back catalog when someone actually does search of bickering and such.

To avoid any bikering or bickering, can we agree that we all are:

1) Generally in favor of oil
2) Also pretty much in favor of tires, even if they are British tyres
3) Smitten by kittens, as long as they are really dogs
4) Ready to ream out anybody who insults cats whether or not they like dogs
5) Opposed to unwarranted rudeness, unless it's our own

+1!. I wish people would just ignore questions they don't feel are worthy, instead of giving a rude response. I asked a question not long ago and was replied to quite rudely, and falsely accused of implying things by just wanting a simple answer ! I also belong to a Ducati forum, and people there are never rude.

Timco 09-17-2014 06:40 AM

Seems the simple answer is a sticky or tacked thread for tires, oil, and 'name this mystery part' threads or questions.

I only like big cats, the little ones look too much like a Menu item in San Francisco's Asian food market.
It scares me to think of what I may have eaten there, but it certainly tastes really good.

It probably takes more time than the Admins/Mods want to donate. How about you (current frequent users) make the thread, then have it stickied?

Have the Original Post be an index of links to the info. Not all the info in one post.

This forum has been my favorite resource for Boxster info during the process of figuring out if I wanted to buy one, then getting started taking care of the one I purchased.

I have noticed that many new posts bring up old topics that have already been covered very well. A Honda forum that I frequent has a very useful Tech FAQ section (single thread) that list categories, then links to the best old thread on the topic:
FAQs - Frequently Asked (Tech) Questions - Honda-Tech

Put it as a sticky at the top of the General forum. Much of it could link directly to the Pelicanparts DIYs:
Porsche Boxster 986 (1997-2004) / 987 (2005-2008) Technical Articles | Pelican Parts

Others could lead to some of the better 'Problem solved' or DIY threads in the forum.

I'm friends with a West African dude. He's a big game hunter. Speaks five languages, is well versed in French cuisine and loves him some cat stew.
He indicated that bar none it was the most tender meat you could ever eat.
They eat cat in Peru as well, maybe it's the Asian influence.
But I think all of these people are going to hell along with the dog eaters. And the people who put their pets in ridiculous costumes...
Even the serial killers who eat people think they're nuts.
