How do I fix stupid?
I have a 99 Box with aftermarket stereo.I want to go stock so I purchased a cr 220.I removed the stereo today to find all the wires had been cut and the stereo wires spliced.I do not have the factory plug so what is the best way to get it back to stock?
Such a small space to work and so many wires. |
PM itsnotanova (Woody) or one of the other members who are parting out Boxsters. Probably your least expensive option, as you need the radio harness.
Good luck. |
Boy, does this one hit close to home. A few years ago I found a 47k mile, 2 owner (they were best friends, so kind of 1 1/2 actually;)) no-hit no-paintwork totally stock 1996 Porsche 911, even had the "unleaded fuel only" peel off decal still on the gas gauge. Only thing not OEM, a $79.00 POS Sony head unit, the CDR210 had crapped out 2 months prior and the seller had "the shop" put it in. Of course they pitched the original unit .
Upon choosing the correct Blaupunkt aftermarket unit that looked much more like it belonged there I removed the offending Sony to find exactly what you did. I was beyond livid, no recourse though so I sat back, drank a beer and got over it. As has been noted, best off to snag an OEM stereo harness and spend some quality time on your back like I did. Post a WTB ad in the Parts Section if no luck with the prior mentioned members. |

Triple gauges and a loud exhaust.

12 Gauge and a bag of jerky to eat while you wait for the owner who hacked it up:cool:

the harness used on a modern blaupunkt stereo plugs into the cdr 220. I am sure with some hunting on e-bay you should be able to locate one. from there you will need to do some soldering. also you will need a plug for the speaker outputs. the low level ones (to the factory amp) may be a little harder to find. you may have some luck going to a junk yard and looking at some volkswagons, audis, and Volvos. from my understanding there were a few with similar stereo systems.

I was always under the impression that you cannot fix stupid.

Good luck on getting the harness fixed up. |
It is true that you cannot fix stupid but with patience you can usually clean up the mess after stupid has been in there.

Had the same issue when I wanted to put the stock cdr-220 radio back in my car. I was able to get the replacement plugs from:
Becker Autosound 170 North 5th Street Saddle Brook, NJ 07663 United States 201-773-0976 parts@beckerautosound.com The part number was BAS-1253. Hope that helps. |
