What would you pay?

...For a set of new plastic inside lenses for the headlights?

I am so tired of looking at my burned up headlights. The inside plastic piece is brown and melted from the bulbs I guess. They have been like this since I bought the car.
I was thinking about doing the hid thing some day, but its not in my budget right now.

I've looked and looked for a set of those inner lenses for over a year and finally found a brand new set on ebay for $200 OBO. I have a friend that restores headlights and he says that he will put them in for me for free.

Is $200 too much? How much should I offer? I don't want to low-ball the guy.

Thanks so much!

If your friend will put them in for free, that is not much more labor than installing a true HID retrofit, which does not cost much more than $200. The outer lenses will have to come off, and once they are off you are 90% of the way to getting the retrofit installed. How much would your friend charge to install an HID retrofit?

Also, if you have Amber headlights, then you could probably get a whole new set of the lights for $200. I've got 2 or 3 sets laying around from when I was going to try and do some retrofits and sell them. It got stalled when I found a pair of litronics. If you have clear halogens then they are worth a little more than that.

For $200 you can buy the HIDS, and installing is not that much trouble.

An HID retrofit is $500 at the retrofit source, kit not included.
HID kits seem to be over $300, unless I'm missing something...?
I was told to stay very far away from the $100-$200 asian clone kits on eBay.

My headlights are the clear style and in pretty good shape except for the inside lenses. Thanks for the advice. I think I'll offer $150 and see what happens
